The Vendor Management Office (VMO) Director in the Information Technology (IT) department at NextEra Energy is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, planning, and execution of vendor management activities. The VMO Director is a key role in driving operational excellence, cost optimization, and risk mitigation through effective vendor management practices.

To achieve this, the VMO Director will bring exemplary sourcing and demand management subject matter expertise, supplier relationship management, negotiating and risk management skills, as well as significant data analysis with strong financial acumen. A strong track record of developing teams is required and prior experience in managing and overseeing technology vendor relationships is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Governance:

  • Partner with NextEra IT Leadership to set a comprehensive vendor management strategy aligned with NextEra Energy's business objectives and IT goals.
  • Maintain standardized vendor management policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Define vendor evaluation criteria and lead the evaluation and selection of vendors, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Monitor vendor performance and conduct regular vendor performance reviews to identify areas of improvement and ensure adherence to contractual obligations.

Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for vendor communications, escalations, and dispute resolution.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with key vendors to drive collaboration, innovation, and value creation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage vendor relationships and ensure effective communication and coordination of activities.
  • Conduct vendor audits and assessments to validate contract compliance and service delivery.

Contract Management

  • Lead the negotiation, drafting, and review of vendor contracts and agreements, working closely with legal, procurement, and finance teams.
  • Ensure all vendor contracts are aligned with NextEra Energy's legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor contract expiration dates and proactively manage contract renewals, amendments, and terminations.
  • Develop and maintain a centralized repository of vendor contracts, documentation, and related information.

Performance And Metrics

  • Maintain, enhance, and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure vendor performance and service levels.
  • Analyze vendor performance data to identify trends, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare regular reports and dashboards for stakeholders, highlighting vendor performance, risks, and insights.
  • Lead and develop a 5-person VMO Team that is aligned with sub-business units.

Preferred Specific Qualifications And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in vendor management, procurement, or IT sourcing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of vendor management principles, best practices, and industry trends.
  • Strong negotiation, contract management, and dispute resolution skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with vendors and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change and implement process improvements.
  • Familiarity with IT systems, technologies, and infrastructure.
