Adjunct Faculty: Nursing Clinical Teaching

Position Summary

Concordia University is seeking part-time, adjunct clinical instructors to teach clinicals at the CUAA Ann Arbor, MI campus. The appointment will be per semester and may be a renewable position.

Definition of Position: A registered professional nurse who is primarily responsible for the supervision and evaluation of students in the clinical setting. This contract is renewed on a semester basis.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Each faculty member is expected to comply with all rules and regulations for University as outlined in the Adjunct Faculty Handbook. In addition, each faculty member has the following responsibilities:

Clinical

* Adhere to guidelines of the Concordia University School of Nursing

* Orient self to Concordia's philosophy and nursing framework used (review Student Handbooks, Nursing Faculty Handbook, and Clinical Instructor Manual)

* Review policies related to clinical dress, absenteeism, and grading processes

* Contact facility for orientation

* Orient students to clinical setting

* Arrive at facility 30 minutes prior to actual clinical time to determine assigned patients

* Assure nursing care of student's client is accomplished in a timely and appropriate fashion

* Work collaboratively with staff at assigned clinical facility

* Apply content presented in respective theory course to the clinical setting

* Grade clinical assignments in a timely manner (usually 48 hours) - i.e. journals, care plans, management projects, etc.

* Provide weekly verbal and written feedback to students in addition to mid-rotation and end-of-rotation conferences

* Recognize the need for remediation and complete a referral if necessary

* Communicate to course coordinator and clinical liaison any concerns or questions

* Keep ongoing records of student performance in the clinical setting

Professional Activity

* Maintain current knowledge of clinical practice within the area of teaching responsibility

* Maintain knowledge of current teaching methods

* Update curriculum vitae annually

* Participate in professional and community organizations

* Uphold the mission of Concordia University

* Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

* Exhibits a willingness and ability to work with diverse individuals and organizations

* Familiar with the university campus life

* Able to deal with interruptions and work in a fast-paced environment

* Able to present a Christian and professional manner

* Candidates should possess strong written and oral communications skills

* All candidates should possess an ability to meet deadlines

* Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)

Education & Experience

* Current licensure and registration to practice professional nursing in Michigan

* Master of Science in Nursing degree required

* Minimum two years of nursing experience

* Recommendation from current nurse manager

* Previous teaching in a baccalaureate nursing program preferred

* Current knowledge of clinical practice within the area of teaching responsibility required

* Attendance at all clinical coordination meetings

* Active involvement in a Christian Church
