This Sourcing Analyst is responsible for improving cost position through the identification of inefficiencies. This role will support the optimization of the Generac make/buy strategy, ensuring that we execute with the most effective total cost for each program. The Sourcing Cost Analyst is responsible for preparing cost analysis by evaluating material cost, labor cost, and overhead cost incurred in the fabrication or assembly of parts, and when predetermined standards are not available, make an estimate based on benchmarking costs & cost tables. This role will support multiple commodity strategies and the optimization of inefficiencies throughout the global organization.


Essential Duties:

  • Analyze manufacturing processes of a sub-assembly/part and generate process steps that translate into ERP system routings
  • Develop Cost Breakdown and Work Routings Analysis for control and development of should costs
  • Prepare materials used in negotiations with suppliers when their pricing is above the should cost"
  • Identify key variables associated with cost gaps and support commodity management with supporting information to negotiate closure or improvement of the cost opportunities
  • Control and manage costing through contract development and analytical support
  • Analyze cost variances against cost drivers to determine accuracy and acceptance of proposals
  • Act as a resource for cost accounting and commodity management to identify reasons behind accounting-based variances
  • Effectively Communicate the cost analyses thru graphic reports and workshops
  • Assesses cost effectiveness of products and projects to achieve target cost conferring with other functions to adjust cost estimates for effective decision-making process and make/buy decision
  • Analyze cost effective manufacturing process and effectively communicate opportunity for improvement for supplier implementation
  • Evaluate and identify additional cost reduction ideas to further reduce the part cost below our should cost" and present these to the DE s (DFx)
  • Work with supplier management team to support supplier lead development and continuous improvement opportunities that result in lower cost / improved performance.
  • Assist the suppliers (when needed) with alternative manufacturing methods / procedural changes to lower cost and increase quality
  • Ability to work outside standard business hours as required and attend video meetings with other regions.


Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain, Business or related degree, or equivalent experience
  • 3 years experience in similar industry or role
  • Experience with standard cost systems, cost analysis and reporting


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a cost estimation/cost engineering/cost accounting/industrial engineering/manufacturing role
  • ERP experience (SAP, BI)
  • Program or project management experience
  • Supplier development experience
  • Professional certifications (i.e. ASQ-CQE/CQA, CPIM, CSCP, PMP)


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of latest manufacturing processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of product variance calculations and product costing structure.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated collaboration as a part of a project team
  • Ability to present recommendations and influence decision makers through analytical presentations


Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting; close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel up to 10%.
