The New Jersey Attorney Generals office is looking for litigator to assistant with the supervision of the Appellate Section of the Litigation Practice Group for the Division of Law in Trenton, NJ. The position will be appointed as a Deputy Attorney General 2 with a functional title of Assistant Section Chief with an annual salary between $114,415.39 to $163,799.20. Salary offered is non-negotiable and will fall within the range posted. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Attorney General has broad oversight of the states legal and law enforcement matters. As the head of the Department of Law & Public Safety, the Attorney General supervises a wide range of Divisions, Offices, and Commissions, consisting of over 2,800 sworn law enforcement officers, 600 attorneys, and thousands of other public servants. ABOUT THE DIVISION: The Division of Law (DOL) serves as primary legal counsel for New Jersey state government. Generally speaking, this work takes three forms: by providing legal advice to the states departments and agencies, by defending the state in civil litigation, and by bringing civil lawsuits against individuals, corporations, and other entities that violate the law and harm New Jersey and its residents. Staffed by nearly 500 attorneys, DOLs responsibilities cover a broad swath of legal issues, including those involving banking, child protection, corrections, education, environmental, finance, health, insurance, taxation, and transportation matters. ABOUT THE PRACTICE GROUP: The Litigation Practice Group includes two sections which have responsibilities involving a substantial amount of litigation. Those sections are State Police, Employment & Corrections; and Tort Litigation & Judiciary. The Assistant Attorneys General have overall responsibility for the management of the practice group. In addition, they provide policy direction and advice for the handling of litigation throughout the Division. ABOUT THE POSITION: Under the supervision of the Assistant Attorneys General in the Litigation Practice Group, and the Section Chief of the Appellate Section, the Assistant Section Chief will be responsible for: Aiding the Section Chief with the overall administration and management of the Section; Supervising the work of the deputies; Evaluating the performance of the Deputy Attorneys General in the Section; Assisting in the preparation of briefs and oral argument, as needed; Performing other related duties as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor. Admission to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New Jersey is required. Four (4) years of experience as a practicing attorney, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity. OTHER KEY FACTORS: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey.
