The Cost Estimator supports the Project Management Team with primary responsibility developing cost files for all new paperfood pac product opportunities both artwork change only and new custom items. Cost files will be developed through cross functional interactions with multiple areas of Sabert to develop/confirm costing data inputs and compile data to estimate production costs according to company specifications. Relies on high level judgment and broad experience to plan and accomplish efficient cost estimates.

What is my day to day like?

  • Work with Sales and Project Management to create a clear understanding of NPD Project goals.
  • Correlate information provided regarding customer specifications into cost options & inputs.
  • Collect input on labor, production, tooling, raw materials, etc. from Sabert cross functional resources to collate information into cost models to develop product costs in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Assertively pursue appropriate resources for information needed to complete the cost model in a timely manner. Resources include sales, structural design, project management, manufacturing, sourcing, plant controllers, finance and senior leadership.
  • Drive for the most accurate & appropriate costs by comparing to other projects and knowledge and pushing back on assumptions, inputs, recommendations as appropriate.
  • Develop an understanding of Sabert materials and manufacturing processes & equipment and how they impact cost.
  • Constantly look for opportunities to improve cost model efficiency, accuracy, and process, as well as easy/intuitive use. Revise & implement SOP as needed.
  • Constantly look for opportunities to improve general cost process for turnaround speed. Pursue & implement SOP to streamline as needed.
  • Be an advocate for Sabert interests/financial position while still ensuring customer requirements/expectations are met.
  • Schedule meetings or critical conversations as necessary to drive to accurate & timely costs.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for Sabert New Product Development paper product costing.
  • Develop paper NPD costing best practices and communicate with full NPD team if there is broader application.
  • Document and manage an archive of completed costs for not only historical records, but also for potential use for "like item" ballpark cost estimates.
  • Provide product cost support for contract renewals, existing business bids and large-scale catalog item opportunities where in-depth analysis of product cost strategy is required.
  • Provide post project analysis of estimated vs actual product costs as needed.
  • Provide regular updates to the Project Management team regarding status of cost request in process.
  • Work closely with plant controllers to ensure the most accurate standards are being used.

What makes a person successful in this position.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Manufacturing, Engineering or equivalent experience .
  • 5+ years of work experience with data, operations, financial analysis, cost estimating or production engineering.
  • 2+ years experience with Finance principles related to costing product.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing concepts, best practices, and efficient procedures.
  • Familiarity with mechanical drawings (such as CAD files, print press information, print plates, etc.)
  • Experience with the packaging industry, including manufacturing processes such as printing, paper forming, die cutting, gluing, corrugating, etc., and with the materials such as fluted paper & paperboard
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, basic Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams skills
  • Innovative problem-solving capabilities with special attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task in high volume, fast paced environment with a biased towards action.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills; written and verbal.

What will my schedule be like?

This is a full-time position working 40 hours a week. Our core hours are Monday - Friday 8:30am-5:00pm. This position is eligible for hybrid work with 2 days as remote and 3 days onsite.
