Maintenance Staff


Job Details

The Maintenance staff supports and advances the mission of FCS by taking responsibility for maintaining all facilities in a state of readiness by repairing defective equipment and making improvements where needed; performs a variety of general maintenance duties which include electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and construction in the maintenance and repair of school facilities and equipment; reports to the Facilities Supervisor.

Essential Duties of Maintenance Staff
A. Communicates effectively with building principals in order to assist them in their roles

B. Repairs facility deficiencies as identified by work requests from building principals, teachers, and other staff members, including problems with, but not limited to, restrooms, lighting, kitchens, grounds, gym, and classrooms, floors and halls

C. Builds and maintains fixtures and equipment required by all campus personnel in the performance of their assigned duties

D. Supervise summer student workers, as needed

E. Assists with snow/ice removal or tree removal as result of inclement weather

F. Maintains all tools and equipment in working order

G. Performs any other work assigned by the Facilities Supervisor or other administrator according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision

H. Responsible for 24-hour emergency maintenance and keyholder duties (as assigned) and is available for work at all school events scheduled on non-school days (as assigned) by the Facilities Supervisor; adjustment of hours and/or weekend work may be required and/or occasional overtime

I. Complete grounds work as needed such as: weekly grounds pick up, light sweeping and facilitating landscaping growth (ie. watering new plants, etc.)

J. Schedule and assist with completion of preventative maintenance program; inspect buildings, electrical systems, grounds, and equipment to ensure safe, well-maintained conditions, identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair

K. Perform minor troubleshooting and electrical repairs; replace light bulbs, ballasts and fuses

L. Identify and perform basic service and repair on plumbing fixtures; open clogged lines and drains

M. Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment; recommend tools, supplies, and equipment for purchase and keep tools organized

N. Perform a variety of locksmith duties; install, repair, and replace locks on doors

O. Inspect, service, and maintain operational functionality of doors and windows

P. Install or replace plugs, switches, outlets

Q. Assist with moving loading, unloading, and storing supplies, furniture and equipment

R. Wear proper protective equipment while performing job duties (i.e., goggles, helmet, back brace, knee pads) in accordance with OSHA guidelines

S. Ability to learn to use computers for data entry and/or handle, use, or repair hand-held power equipment, tools and/or light machinery; assist with HVAC, irrigation and lighting controls via web-based control systems

T. Provide personal accessibility via school-issued mobile phone for inquiries and questions from school staff, supervisors, etc. and quick response to alarms; immediate response is preferred (and needed for alarms), response required within 60 minutes

Requirements

A. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities of Maintenance Staff

1. Committed Christian with a close personal walk with the Lord and the Christian character qualities to serve as a role model for young people

2. Regular in attendance at an evangelical, Protestant church

3. Commitment to a Biblical lifestyle, not promoting or engaging in premarital, extramarital, transgender, or homosexual behavior

4. If married, a solid commitment based on Mark 10:9 and a positive marital relationship

5. Strong commitment to Christian Education

6. Maintains a valid driver's license and ability to drive a variety of school vehicles

7. Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds

8. Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear. Occasionally required to sit. Frequently must squat, stoop, or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. Daily uses hand strength to grasp tools, supplies and equipment. Occasionally climbs ladders.

9. Thorough knowledge of proper safety techniques and procedures while using chemicals, power tools, hand tools and equipment; knowledge of proper lifting techniques; ability to operate heavy equipment; understanding of methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair and electrical work; ability to properly perform basic welding and carpentry.

10. Ability to learn and follow procedures installing, testing, operating, or repairing machinery or technology systems.

11. Knowledge of school emergency procedures. Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions. Ability to perform work independently.

12. Regularly works indoors and outdoors. Occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. Frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock, mechanical hazards, explosive hazards, burn hazards, chemical hazards. Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat.
