Erie Family Health Centers, a top workplace in Chicago and suburbs, is looking for a valuable addition to our Patient Benefit Services team! The Patient Benefit Specialist II supports a variety of initiatives within the Patient Benefit Services Department. The Specialist's II primary responsibilities will be to inform, educate and assist patients with enrollment of all programs such as Medicaid and Medicare. In addition, they will coordinate and monitor the Patient Benefit Line, desktops through Erie's electronic medical record, emails, and patients referred to Health Justice. The Patient Benefits Specialist II will be part of a collaborative team to achieve high levels of patient retention and enrollment by ensuring efficient and friendly customer service to the clients of Erie Family Health Centers.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Inform, educate, and assist patients with enrollment in all programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, Medicare Supplement, and other health insurance.
  • Coordinate and monitor the Patient Benefit line and assist patients with their health plan (Commercial, Marketplace, and Medicaid) benefits, redetermination, and enrollment questions.
  • Assist with urgent patient cases in need of medical coverage and escalate to the state for Medicaid approval.
  • Provide high level support educating and assisting patients on Medicaid redetermination and insurance enrollment and eligibility processes.
  • Collaborate with Patient Benefit Services, Patient Benefit Advocates, Patient Access Center Staff, Providers and Clinical Support Staff as needed to fulfill patient and external requests.
  • Calls insurance company to obtain eligibility and benefit information for all incoming requests.
  • Troubleshoot and research insurance-related problems.

Qualifications

Education
  • Associate or bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in relevant role required
  • Two years' experience in health care field, required.
  • Two years' experience in Medicaid managed care, required.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Experienced in utilizing a computer and other office equipment, required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with care teams in a fast-paced environment while remaining organized.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel required.
  • Adaptability in shifting current workflows to new priorities that arise.
  • Medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records and clinical documentation.
  • Bilingual fluency (English/Spanish) a plus (May be required to assist or work with non-English/Spanish only speaking patients and/or guests.)
