Hours: Up to 10 hours per week; no guaranteed number of hours. Flexible schedule; weekends required.

Summary

This is a position of considerable responsibility. Duties include developing and implementing trips, as well as supervising and motivating adult participants with special needs while caring for their safety and well-being.

This position is the lead worker for the Adult Special Recreation Program.

Works under the general direction of theRecreation Program Coordinator and ultimately the Recreation Supervisor.

Duties

Meets with the Recreation Program Coordinator to develop plans for trip locations to meet the social needs of the participants.

Supervises and interacts with the program participants during the scheduled trips.

Supervises Program Counselors during scheduled trips.

May be required to transport participants to the scheduled trips and return them to their homes in the Township passenger van or mini bus.

Checks all activity areas for foreseeable hazards.

Upholds proper discipline standards for themselves and participants at all times.

Utilizes activity time in an effective manner.

Teaches individual life skills in a group setting.

Maintains proper reports as required.

Maintains regular communication with the Recreation Program Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor.

Demonstrates proficiency when performing emergency protocol.

Assumes responsibility for all equipment assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Previous experience and working knowledge of instructing adult participants with special needs.

Valid Class C Driver's License required. Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsements and previous driving experience preferred.

CPR certification preferred.

Good ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with participants, their families, supervisors, co-workers, members of the community, and the general public.

Good organizational skills.

Ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner.

Ability to work well with all ages.

Ability to handle difficult situations in a diplomatic manner.

Ability to think clearly and effectively under pressure.

Ability to solve issues promptly, efficiently, and effectively.

Ability to enforce all rules and regulations.

Flexibility with work schedule.

Knowledge of area events that would appeal to the program's participants.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for a minimum of 1 up to 8 hours, sit for a minimum of 1 up to 8 hours and walk for a minimum of 1 up to 8 hours per workday.

Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds of equipment.

Ability to reach, bend, kneel, crouch, constantly throughout the workday.

Ability to handle equipment and vehicle controls.

Ability to perform job junctions in all types of weather conditions and temperatures.

Ability to drive an automobile.

This position is not eligible for Township-paid fringe benefits.
