TITLE: High School Athletic Trainer Substitute
HOURS: Full-time, 40 hours per week
SALARY: $25 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Licensed by NC Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners, Required
* Professional practice agreement with North Carolina-licensed healthcare provider
* Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with students and others in a Sports Medicine Program.
* Licensed as a teacher, preferred.
* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Principal and Athletic Director
JOB GOAL: To work with student athletes in the prevention, recognition, assessment, management, treatment, disposition and reconditioning of acute athletic injuries; providing immediate care for athletes at practices and contests.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Has primary responsibility for all aspects of the sports medicine program at the respective high school, including the authority to withhold play and approve return to play after injury.
* Is on campus and available for the duration of all on-site practices and games/events and for away varsity football games.
* Maintains student athletic files, which may include physicals, injury reports, treatment logs, and additional medical documentation.
* Facilitates the proper arrangements for scheduling athletic physicals for student athletes.
* Reviews pre-participation physical exams and verifies clearance by healthcare provider for athletic participation.
* Consults with the school nurse to obtain available health plans for identified health problems noted on pre-participation physical exams.
* Provides basic instruction to athletic staff members in the prevention and care of injuries.
* Assists and advises athletic staff regarding conditioning programs and the selection, care and fitting of protective equipment.
* Schedules, trains and supervises sports medicine student assistants.
* Maintains the care and cleanliness of the athletic training room.
* Maintains the organization, inventory and requisition of all training room supplies with the advisement and approval of the athletic director and professional practice agreement provider.
* Assumes responsibility for the treatment and supervision of treatment for all athletic injuries and conditions.
* Refers athletic injuries to licensed healthcare providers for diagnosis and/or treatment.
* Implements appropriate instructions for treatment as directed by the licensed healthcare provider.
* Develops and supervises appropriate rehabilitation programs for athletes under the direction of the licensed healthcare provider.
* Makes a determination if a player is capable of continued participation in a game and/or practice if the player is injured.
* Treats students for minor athletic injuries during after-school site-based clinic.
* Communicates with School Nurse about athletic injuries that may have an impact on student's school day.
* Abides by all established local Board policies and procedures, including Athletics Emergency Action Plan and Prevention of Weather-Related Illness and Injury
* Performs other duties as assigned by the school principal in keeping with Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education Policy and North Carolina Administrative Code and Statutes.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-months, August 1st - May 30th
Extended Day Schedule, with split-days during August.
EVALUATION: Current professional practice agreement Annual performance evaluation by Athletic Director and Principal.
