H0040 Media RelationsDescriptionEnhances the image and reputation of the university by coordinating media communications and providing counsel and guidance to administrators and faculty in assigned areas. Supports web and new media initiatives aimed at advancing the university's Tier One goals and secures media placements in local, state and national media outlets and publications.Networks with national and statewide media contacts, on-campus sources and partner organizations to generate news stories and media opportunities about the University of Houston.May coordinate media opportunities for UH Chancellor/President and other high level administrators.Garners media coverage for assigned colleges and departments to promote the university's Tier One initiatives.Collaborates with deans, administrators and faculty to stay apprised of newsworthy activities and provides communications support using various media.Interviews faculty and administrators and conducts research on related topics to develop news releases and articles.Writes, edits and disseminates news releases and other articles to highlight research, programs, faculty and staff achievements and events of interest to internal and external audiences.Develops content in support of web, social media, blogs and multi-media initiatives.Fosters and maintains positive working relationships with representatives of key media outlets.Coordinates and conducts press conferences and media availabilities. Maintains press lists.Mentors junior staff members, interns and student workers.Perform other job-related duties as requested.EEO/AA

Additional Job Posting Information:Stays apprised of the news cycle to identify media opportunities for faculty subject-matter expert interviews.Translates complex, scientific research to make it understandable and relevant to the general public.Preferred Qualifications:Excellent editorial judgment as well as writing and editing skills. Preference for candidates with proficiency using AP Style.Experience using media-monitoring software for media outreach and understanding the data to optimize performance, adjust strategy and create reports.Exceptional proficiency in digital communication platforms and tools, with a proven ability to quickly adapt to and master new software applications for efficient workflow and collaboration.A strong commitment to staying current with emerging technologies and trends in the digital communication landscape to ensure our strategies remain cutting-edge and effective.QualificationsBachelors and 7 years experienceRequires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience.Additional Job Posting:Applicants are required to submit a PDF portfolio that should include two writing samples of at least 500 words and one longer-form writing sample of at least 1,000 words. This position is in-office M-F, however it may be eligible for a limited alternative work agreement (AWA) after three months.Salary
