The New School is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, socially engaged university administrator to serve as Director of Counseling Services. The full-time Director of Counseling Services provides clinical and administrative leadership for a multidisciplinary mental health team that serves a diverse population of approximately 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The Director oversees a training program for doctoral externs, social work interns, and a psychiatry residency. The Director also serves as a university-wide resource for matters relating to the mental health and wellness of the student body. The Director reports directly to the Assistant Vice President for Student Health Services, and assists in the strategic planning and assessment of Student Health Services. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide clinical and administrative oversight of Counseling Services
  • Provide clinical supervision to a diverse and experienced clinical staff
  • Collect and analyze data of service delivery
  • Demonstrate technological competence to apply technology in departmental operations and proficiency in Microsoft Office as well as any department specific software (Point and Click)
  • Establish departmental approaches to elicit and utilize student and stakeholder input regarding Counseling Services, including issues of access to, satisfaction with, and impact of the services.
  • Plan, lead, and facilitate a weekly counseling staff meeting. Attend other departmental and division meetings and events as required.
  • Provide crisis intervention and risk assessment as needed
  • Work with the Assistant Director of Counseling and the Assistant Director of Externship Training to coordinate and manage clinical training of externs and interns
  • Oversee Mental Health Advisory Group
  • Develop, maintain and monitor relationships with relevant community resources
  • Develop and maintain connections with other university staff
  • Attend university events and make presentations to raise awareness and promote use of Counseling Services
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions as needed
  • Perform quality assurance activities such as chart review and satisfaction surveys
  • Assist in short term and long term strategic planning for Counseling Services
  • Maintain Counseling Services Operations Manual
  • Organize and provide professional development opportunities for clinical staff
  • Participation in University committees as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Clinical psychologist PhD or PsyD or PhD. in Social Work or PhD/PsyD in psychology
  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience post degree
  • Experience supervising clinical staff
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Minimum of 5 years administrative experience
  • New York State licensure required
  • Strong multicultural framework
  • Experience developing outreach and services to students of color and other diverse communities
  • Possess strong verbal, writing, and presentation skills
  • Some evening hours required


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience in college mental health preferred
  • Strong recommendations demonstrating leadership skills


WORK MODE
  • Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. #LI-Hybrid


SALARY RANGE

$140,000 - $149,800 per annum
