Summary

This position ensures for the complete care of youth residents, supervises the staff through assignment of daily tasks, evaluates the staff and provides feedback on performance, and maintains facility security and safety. This position is under the general supervision of the Deputy Director and/or his/her designee.

Oversees facility and supervises personnel

  • Oversee the safety, security and functioning of the facility.
  • Serve as facility liaison with social workers, court service officers, law enforcement, school personnel, other professionals, and parents.
  • Oversee facility housekeeping and maintenance.
  • Oversees and manages the assigning of work, the establishment of priority levels, the determining of disciplinary actions, scheduling, the making of hiring and termination decisions, the reviewing and approval of work, the responding to complaints and grievances, the provision of input on performance evaluations, and the training/coaching of employees.
  • Attend monthly Supervisor meetings and conduct staff meetings; participate in training sessions and other required meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Oversee completion of employee leave requests and timecards.
  • Perform all duties of a Detention Officer as needed.

Manages additional operational duties for the department
  • Monitor supplies and prepare supply requisitions.
  • Evaluate youth case history, needs, medical care and interest of the youth residents.
  • Oversee distribution and documentation of medication to residents, in the absence of the nurse.
  • Notify police department of runaway juveniles.
  • Maintain security of the facility through resident counts, room searches and building security measures in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Coordinate appointments, referral acceptances, and referral waiting lists.

Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written English language skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in the use of computers, Microsoft Office Suite, and/or related software.
  • Proficient understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Ability to analyze situations and make sound judgments as needed in daily supervision of resident activities.
  • Knowledge of youth care and supervision procedures.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must meet all of the qualifications regarding facility staff for licensure according to the regulations of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and they Kansas Department of Children and Families
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certificates
  • Ability to obtain Defensive Driving certificates
  • 21 years of age.
