Position Overview

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of all campus irrigation systems. It will work as part of a team to accomplish goals and objectives.

This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.

Duties may include:

  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance of systems, tools, equipment and vehicles
  • Help locate irrigation lines, sprinkler heads and valves
  • Coordinate with various trade groups and contractors as needed
  • Train or supervise the work of seasonal help
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications

Required Experience
  • One year related to commercial or residential irrigation systems involving installation, maintenance, repair and expansion


Required Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent


Required Other
  • Possess a valid driver's license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls within one hour and serve on weekend call-out duty on a regular rotation, typically every three weeks


Additional Preferred
  • Two years of post-secondary education or training in the fields of construction, irrigation systems maintenance and operations, landscape maintenance and operations
  • Two additional years of experience related to commercial or institutional irrigation systems, for a total of three years
  • Experience operating computerized equipment and computer software for record keeping, email, database entry, photo archiving and irrigation management systems
  • Knowledge of reclaimed water systems, codes and regulations
  • Ability to operate a variety of irrigation/landscape equipment such as: loader, backhoe, grader, roller, excavator, trencher, forklift, skid steer loaders, mowers, etc.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Ability to:
    • Lift and carry or otherwise move up to 60 pounds in a routine, repetitive manner
    • Bend, stoop, crawl, twist, dig, climb ladders and walk throughout the workday
    • Work on uneven and slick surfaces
    • Work in confined spaces
    • Work in inclement weather conditions
    • Work safely in high traffic/congested pedestrian areas
    • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing duties
