Nature of Work

This is a professional position within the Office of Maternal, Child and Family Health (OMCFH) HealthCheck Program. The HealthCheck program is Medicaid's pediatric prevention program for children birth through 20 years of age and also referred to as West Virginia's Early Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPSDT) services. HealthCheck program specialists provide administrative services to Medicaid providers that deliver EPSDT services in an assigned region of the State.


The Incumbent is responsible for visiting all HealthCheck primary care provider sites in the assigned region:


  • Provide providers with the necessary tools and knowledge to carry out EPSDT services that meet reasonable standards of medical practice;
  • Train new staff of HealthCheck primary care providers in all applicable aspects of the program;
  • Provide technical assistance and managerial support to assist HealthCheck primary care providers serve Medicaid approved children in keeping with the American Academy of Pediatrics Bright Futures guidelines;
  • Promote the medical home approach to providing comprehensive primary care; assist with the efforts to educate Medicaid members and providers about any Medicaid redesigns or updated policies, the value of preventive health services and cost-effective methods;
  • Assist with the Governor's Kids First Initiative by HealthCheck program specialists coordinate work with representatives of other Bureau for Public Health organizations, other agencies, and local community organizations that serve children in an assigned region.


Extensive travel is required and a State car could be assigned for work-related travel to pediatric provider offices. HealthCheck specialists may supervise assigned outreach workers and oversee HealthCheck Outreach Services provided by the assigned outreach workers. Perform other duties as assigned. The Incumbent will oversee the counties of: Calhoun, Jackson, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Wirt, and Wood.


Minimum Qualifications

Training: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

Substitution: Additional experience as described below may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.


Experience: Two (2) years full-time, equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience in a technical or program area that is related to the area of employment.

Substitution: Postgraduate education in a field related to the area of employment may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of fifteen semester hours for one (1) year of experience.

OR

Master's degree in social work from a regionally accredited social work program from a regionally accredited college or university.


Note: Appointment above the entry rate may be made at 5% for each six (6) months of successfully completed work as an intern in a practicum placement with the Department of Health and Human Resources for the Master of Social Work degree.
