Senior Accountant


Job Details

Books-A-Million, Inc., the nation's second largest book retailer, is searching for a Senior level Accountant. This is a dual role position, responsible for maintaining the financial records for a Subsidiary of the Company and maintaining certain financial records related to cash management for Books-A-Million. Specific responsibilities for this position include:

* Prepare monthly journal entries for our Subsidiary Company, including recording revenue, month-end accruals, allocations and amortizations

* Prepare monthly journal entries for Books-A-Million, including recording treasury related fees and interest

* Prepare and maintain account reconciliations for related balance sheet accounts

* Prepare monthly financial reporting package for Subsidiary Company, including variance explanations

* Lead monthly Profit & Loss meeting for Subsidiary Company with Operations and Finance team

* Prepare and distribute weekly franchise accounts receivable reports for Subsidiary Company to franchise owners and maintain accurate accounts receivable records through billings and accruals

* Review weekly credit card deposit reconciliation for Books-A-Million and work with credit card processor and IT department to resolve discrepancies

* Assist with Audit requests related to Subsidiary Company and Treasury requests for Books-A-Million

* Serve as back-up in the review of daily cash position report, including preparation of borrowing or investing instructions

* Routinely analyze data, investigate and resolve issues

* Plan and execute special projects

This position is located at the company's headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama, and reports to the Retail General Accounting Manager.

Attractive candidates will possess the following experience and skills:

Experience Required:

* BA/BS in Accounting or Finance

* 2+ years experience performing in a similar role

* Advanced Excel skills

* Demonstrated research and problem solving skills

* Detail oriented and experienced in analyzing large volumes of data

Preferred Skills:

* Ability to work with a cross section of individuals, including senior management and external customers

* Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing

* Infor Software experience a plus

* Experience in Retail a plus
