Position Type: Sorting Room Worker & Store Clerk
About this opportunity: Receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the store and sorting room area; assists store customers in donating, selecting and purchasing store items; operates and maintains a cash register; responds to customer questions.
Key responsibilities:
- Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category and condition; selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing; discards items in accordance with established procedures.
- Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register print-outs; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures.
- Maintains the neatness and security of the cash register area; ensures that forms, bags, etc. are adequately stocked; maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables, and work areas.
- Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures; hangs clothes on hangers and places same on clothes racks.
What we are looking for in you:- High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
- One-year prior experience preferred any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to operate a cash register, perform routine mathematical computations and count change. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Duties are usually performed standing. Standing may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting. Moderate physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying light to heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.).
Working Conditions: Work is sometimes performed in a normal store where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
