Position Details

As a Market Garden Intern, you'll grow food for the community, take a leadership role by promoting sustainable agriculture, healthy eating, and equal food access around Burnsville.

Our Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department is a team of talented individuals who work to provide access to facilities, maintain parks and trails, and run recreation programs and events that matter to our community.

The hours for this role are Mon - Fri, 8:00 am - 11:30 am, with an ideal start date of May 1st and end date of September 1 with after-school hours in September - October. You can expect to work 10-15 hours a week. This role is non-exempt (hourly) and has a starting wage of $12.27/hr.

How you'll use your strengths every day

The Market Garden Intern values people and perspectives by:

  • Provide produce for sales at a farmer's market, donation, or use in a food-based cooking event.
  • Participate and supervise youth in preparing the garden site for winter condition.

  • Help to create and maintain Burnsville's first Food Forest and Market Garden.
  • Provide fresh, healthy food to the community.

And they expect the best by:
  • Plant and maintain the market garden.
  • Plant seeds, care for the garden, remove weeds.
  • Harvest produce and prepare for distribution.

What you'll bring to help you be successful

  • Must be at least 14 years of age by the first day of work.
  • Must be able to get to the Burnsville Civic Center Campus Location - 100 Civic Center Parkway.
  • A background or interest in local government work serving the community.
  • An interest in developing what you do best and a commitment to valuing each colleague for their unique perspectives.
