ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform quality work within the scope of the mission and purpose statement of Central Texas Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Hospital. Work with personal accountability and exceptional morale.
  • Deliver exceptional, compassionate nursing care to patients utilizing a variety of technical skills, working with patients needing surgery.
  • Work effectively and independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees.
  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with clients, obtain patient histories, answer questions regarding treatment plans, provide patient updates, and discuss patient discharge instructions with pet owners.
  • Consistent attendance, without tardiness, when you are scheduled to work.
  • Ability to work well with others as a team and the flexibility and ability to adjust to a changing environment.
  • Self-motivated, hard worker with the ability to multitask, prioritize and delegate appropriately.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Overtime and Saturdays may be required. On-call rotation for weekends and holidays may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Veterinary Technician Licensure is required.
  • Genuinely enjoys working with animals and can effectively deal with them even when they are stressed, ill, or in pain.
  • Must be able to lift and restrain pets of at least 40 pounds, and work on feet most of the day.
  • Excellent customer service, computer, and phone etiquette skills are required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, and stand for an extended period of time. Required to lift up to forty (40) pounds. Employees will be expected to request assistance with lifting or carrying animals or materials over 40 pounds.

WORK REQUIREMENTS:
  • Radiation exposure (x-ray, CT Scan)
  • Possible exposure to gas sterilization using ethylene oxide
  • Hazards associated with infected animals, controlled substances, and possible exposure to contagious diseases
  • Exposures to unpleasant odors and noises
  • Exposure to aggressive patients, bites, scratches, and animal wastes
