Summary of Role

The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for maintenance and repair of the Ammonia Refrigeration System and Fire Suppression Sprinkler Systems at the company's Cashton, WI Distribution Center. Ensures facility mechanical systems operate reliably and efficiently and meet all regulatory compliance standards. In addition to a high level of technical skill, this position requires regular interaction with internal and external resources. This is a safety sensitive role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs regular preventative maintenance inspections on all ammonia system components.
  • Provides general maintenance and repair work to industrial ammonia cooling and refrigeration system by repairing equipment such as compressors, pumps, air handlers, electrical and mechanical control devices, and related components.
  • Ensures compliance with all ammonia system safeguards and regulations.
  • Responsible for documentation and reporting of all work performed as well as upkeep of files and records for all equipment and systems.
  • Coordinates and interacts with vendors promoting strong relationships while supporting business initiatives for systems reliability and efficiency, sourcing best price for parts and services as needed.
  • Performs routine inspections of building systems and components as needed.
  • Supports continuous facility operation by participating in "on call" availability outside normal business hours.
  • Handles confidential information with discretion.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Participates in Process Safety Management (PSM) meetings and contributes as needed to keep compliance of the PSM program.
  • Must be able to complete medical evaluation initially and as needed along with fit testing for respirator program requirements.
  • Must complete respirator training annually.
  • Must be willing to be certified for 24 Hr. Emergency Responder Team Training Hazardous Material Certification initially and complete 8 Hr. Emergency Responder Refresher Training annually thereafter.
  • Assists other maintenance team members as needed.
  • Assists with other projects assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Ammonia Operator 1 Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience with commercial / industrial ammonia refrigeration systems, preferably in food or ingredient manufacturing or storage facilities.
  • Ability to read & interpret detailed blueprints, P&ID's, single lines, ladder logic and wiring schematics.
  • Posses an extremely strong safety philosophy, able to follow all safety policies & procedures, seek out & correct unsafe conditions.
  • Ability to understand and learn Evaporative Condenser water chemistry.
  • Able to wear a full-face air purifying respirator.
  • Competent operational ability and acceptable knowledge of Microsoft Office software or comparable business applications.
  • Basic math skills including arithmetic; ability to perform and interpret basic calculations related to count, weight, time, rate, and distance.
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
  • Verbal and written communication skills; ability to follow instructions and to clearly express ideas in a concise and professional manner.
  • Able to comprehend and interpret troubleshooting documents related to motor control systems along with three phase industrial electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated record of progressive accomplishment and successful interaction management skills.
  • Critical thinking and decision-making skills; able to make effective decisions among primarily known / understood conditions with moderate variables.
  • Effective collaborative skills; must perform well in group settings.
  • Moderate verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly express ideas in a concise and professional manner.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly, occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance, ability to push/pull objects up to 2,500 pounds using material handling equipment.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures including cooler and freezer climates, at heights in excess of 100', and to perform physical activities in various positions including standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, or laying.

Base salary/hourly wage range: $22.29 per hour - $38.02 per hour

This position also receives a $1.00 per hour shift premium between the hours of 6pm and 6am, and a $1.00 per hour shift premium on Saturdays and Sundays. This salary/hourly wage range is exclusive of fringe benefits. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary bonuses. If you are hired at CROPP, your final base salary/hourly wage compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience. Additionally, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that entry-level candidates to this role should expect to be at the lower end of the salary/hourly wage range and hiring at the maximum of the salary/hourly wage range is not typical.
