This position is a critical part of a team working, communication with the manufacturing manager, manufacturing supervisors, the Production department, and Quality control is key.
- Responsible for managing department productivity and work quality. Recommends equipment upgrades, selection of equipment, maintains and schedules maintenance for machine shop equipment.
- Specific activities supervised may include a wide variety of production machining operations, typically involving making parts for proprietary products.
- Working knowledge of machining processes, tooling selection, feeds and speeds, materials for production of prototype work, jigs, and fixtures
- Monitor departments output, ensure parts are produced within print tolerances and specifications
- Scheduling of work for the stock selector to feed the department
- Allocation of work based on delivery dates and production control demand
- Continuous improvement of process and tooling, working with tooling vendors
- Under management guidance, schedules work, assists with employee selection, review employee performance, administer work rules and recommend compensation, unless it is governed by contract.
- Directly supervises unionized direct labor employees
- Must be able to motivate, provide leadership, be a positive role model and create a strong team environment.
- Maintains company policies, and union contract provisions.
- Ensuring that engineering change notices are reviewed and implemented
- Working with the engineering department to develop the machining process of parts i.e., tolerances, additional features needed for the machining process, and finishes
- Working with vendors to ensure parts are form, fit, and function to our prints
- Responsible for daily labor reporting of employees, completing route steps, and other various tasks using Microsoft AX
- Interacting with the Production Control, Engineering, Assembly, and Calibration departments to ensure on time delivery
- Ensuring a safe work environment is maintained
Requirement: ideal candidate will meet the majority of the following:
- High School Graduate w/Technical Degree or Associate s degree in a related field is preferred
- 7+ years of supervisory experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience of CNC and manual; Mills, lathes, and surface grinders
- Experience with CAD/CAM, (Preferably Master CAM)
- Proficient computer skills, experience with Microsoft AX and Office Suite a plus
- Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills
