**Position Summary**

The Material Buyer position is responsible for the purchasing of raw materials in support of the manufacturing organization, managing the supplier base, and executing the overall Supply Chain organization business plan.

**Essential Job Functions - Material Buyer**

* Execution of the procurement of raw materials purchasing plan to support production requirements.

* Deliver assigned supply chain objects in support of annual plan, while balancing material availability against cost.

* Analyze inventory levels as required to coincide with changing customer demand, lead time changes and other initiatives in coordination with the Planning Manager.

* Utilize Materials Requirements Planning System and other planning tools or develop tools as required.

* Create and maintain requisitions, purchase orders, acknowledgements and resolve invoice issues.

* Interface with vendors with respect to price negotiation, availability of materials, delivery time and supplier visits as relates to the Procurement Managers strategy.

* Develop and execute vendor supply agreements.

* Review open requirements and vendor performance, expediting materials when necessary.

* Ensure that all purchase orders are clearly defined, entered and updated, in an accurate and timely manner.

* Proactively plan future raw material requirements taking into account New Product Launch timing and upcoming product mix changes.

* Provide material usage forecast to the Procurement Team as needed.

* Provide cost comparison of materials / vendors to the Procurement Team and needed.

* Continuously work to improve delivery, quality and service of suppliers.

* Ensure that problems relating to delivery, quality, service or pricing are promptly conveyed to the vendor and resolved in a timely manner.

* Provide forecasts to suppliers as required based on Sales, Production Plans and SIOP from Planning Manager.

* Provide documentation on production delays due to raw materials or alternate material use.

* Coordinate and lead supplier visits to continuously improve pricing and/or delivery, quality issues, new product development and any other pertinent topics.

* Manage/Review Supplier Scorecard, a Supplier Quality evaluation program to drive continuous improvement using a method specifically tailored to identify areas of improvements by supplier.

* Prepare metrics reports, with a focused effort on continuous improvement.

* Pursue inventory and cost reduction initiatives, such as scrap reduction and slow moving inventory consumption in coordination with the Planning Manager.

* Update cost saving reports monthly or as required to support business objectives in coordination with Procurement Manager.

* Research and establish contacts with potential new vendors to develop additional or new sources for raw materials.

* Research and track market trends related to assigned commodities to predict cost changes.

* Adhere and promote Checkers environmental, health & safety policies.

* Attendance of internal and external meetings

* Assistance with accounts payable issues to insure timely matching and payment of supplier invoices

* Collaboration with other departments and CIP manufacturing facilities

* Maintain a working knowledge and relationship with key stakeholders including the supply base, new product development, Sales, Marketing, QA, and operations.

* Provide monthly report on current Achievements, short and long term Goals.

* Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

**Job Qualifications**

* Must be able to work in a team environment, project a positive and professional attitude.

* Excellent supervisory skills.

* Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Business, Supply Chain Management or Engineering or equivalent education/work experience.

* Two to five (2-5) years experience in materials purchasing, inventory control and shipping.

* Experience with multi-site purchasing is not required but preferred.

* Clear understanding of materials operations, materials planning and inventory control in a lean manufacturing environment

* Experience in supplier and contract negotiation.

* Self-starter with integrity and confidence who strives to achieve even the most challenging objectives with limited supervision

* Must be able to process and analyze data/information. Must be able to make decisions based on that analysis.

* Results-oriented professional able to solve problems and implement change

* Must have the ability to efficiently learn systems, products, process and procedures.

* Must be organized and detailed oriented.

* Must be able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.

* Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and knowledge of mainframe operations.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex issues in simple terms to all levels of the organization

* Excellent interpersonal skills. Must display a high level of maturity and sound judgment.

* Ability to coordinate multi and changing priorities.

* Experience in ISO 9001 quality management system or equivalent preferred.

The salary range for this role is $60,000 - $70,000 based on experience.
