Position: Facilities Manager


Reports to: Director, Finance & Operations

Works with: Director of Exhibits

Supervises: Senior Housekeeper, Housekeeper, and contractors.

Status: Full-time, non-exempt

Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm; includes weekends (Saturdays and/or Sundays), some holidays and occasional evenings as needed.


Providence Children s Museum welcomes children and adults of all backgrounds and from all communities. Our focus is on serving the children of southern New England, ages 1 to 11, and the adults who care for them. The mission of Providence Children s Museum is to inspire and celebrate learning through active play and exploration.


Summary: Responsible for the overall care of the Museum s and Nina s House building and grounds, including the physical plant and systems, operations, long range planning, repairs and maintenance, and special projects as required.


Essential Duties:


Maintenance and troubleshooting

  • Manage, monitor, troubleshoot and improve such building systems and related equipment as HVAC, fire suppression, plumbing, pest control, security alarms, codes and locks, and trash removal/recycling.
  • Possess knowledge and ability to diagnose and carry out general repairs as necessary, and coordinate with Vendors when issue requires professional attention.
  • Maintain proper upkeep for the grounds and building exterior, including landscaping, loading dock, and parking lot (and snow removal as necessary)
  • Responsible for assisting museum staff with end of day closing duties including securing parking lot gates, and all entrances and exits.
  • Maintain inventory of required facilities related support materials and supplies. Order as needed and store or distribute deliveries.
  • Monitor, maintain and develop recommendations for building systems related to maintenance requests, or work duty lifespan. Selection of vendors and contracting of work/upgrades.
  • Help implement then maintain and monitor new security systems, processes and trainings as required, routine lock inspections.

Management and planning

  • Working with the Director of Finance & Operations, develop a long-range plan for regular maintenance, replacements, and improvements for the total building system
  • Responsible for facilitating work order process from start to finish; including, but not limited to completing paperwork required, tracking project, documenting progress and completion, maintaining Vendor relationships.
  • Working with the Director of Finance & Operations, to develop a schedule for regular permits and filings to ensure we are meeting code, have the proper signage on display, and any required certifications and signage and implement the steps
  • Oversee the Senior Housekeeper and Housekeeper
  • Works closely with the Director of Exhibits
  • Participate in or lead special and building related projects/teams
  • Chooses and works with related outside service vendors by determining specifications, soliciting, and accepting bids, negotiating costs, and overseeing contracts, with review and approval by the Director of Finance & Operations
  • Help develop, monitor, and report on the annual utility (with the Director of Finance & Operations) and building maintenance budget


Qualifications

  • Bachelors or associates level degree in facilities management, or related fields, or minimum of 3-5 years professional experience, preferably in a public building
  • Working knowledge of fire suppression systems and HVAC systems
  • Experience with and knowledge of space planning, logistics, building materials and methods
  • Ability to communicate effectively with variety of museum staff, as well as technical and lay audiences
  • Ability to operate safe and functional shop environment by maintaining equipment and safety supplies, and providing instructional support to employees and interns
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, climb ladders and operate heavy machinery.
  • Independent, self-starter, adept problem-solver, team player and deadline conscious
  • Ability to read architectural plans a plus
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Office. Additional software such as CAD or building specific systems a plus.


Compensation:

  • $50,000- $60,000 commensurate with experience, possibility for overtime pay
  • health/dental insurance, including family members.
