Position Summary: The Early Childhood Education (3, 4, and 5-year-old students) Social Emotional Support Specialist will work directly with students who could benefit from individual, targeted social-emotional support and behavior intervention both in and outside of the classroom. This person will also help evaluate needs, create classroom strategies, and assist in training and implementation of the strategies. The ECE Social Emotional Support Specialist will report to the Division Director in collaboration with the Student Support team.

With students:

  • Provides individual, targeted social-emotional support and behavior intervention to students
  • Provides one-to-one or small group interventions, such as Zones of Regulation, with students when necessary
  • Observe students to determine social and behavioral support needs
  • Follow up on the implementation of the support plan for students to transition skills learned in one-to-one or small group interventions to the class setting


With teachers:

  • Support implementation of SEL strategies based on the school's models that promote the social and emotional health of our young learners
  • Develops and/or supports SEL plans and goals in cooperation with teachers, families, the administration, and the building support team
  • Establishes training in behavior management techniques and intervention as necessary
  • Assists in the training of developmentally appropriate social skills lessons within the classroom setting


Within the Division (ECE)

  • Maintains and supports the Division-wide behavior management systems
  • Follows behavior management principles and discipline guidelines established by the division
  • Lead PD/informative sessions or informative sessions to staff and families as needed
  • Set meetings with teachers and families as needed
  • Observations and follow-up calls as needed for new students during admission sessions
  • Performs other related duties as required
  • Participate fully in the ISDenver Growth and Evaluation Process
  • Actively participate in school-sponsored Professional Development (PD) workshops and training to remain current with best practice and support the School Strategic Plan.
  • Utilize a growth mindset towards professional growth.
  • Be prepared to share best practice with colleagues through opportunities such as team or co-teaching, peer observations, modeling and assisting with PD workshops.

  • Bachelors or Masters degree or equivalent in education/mental health/appropriate field (required)
  • Recognized education credentials (ex: CO State License) (preferred)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom teaching in an early childhood program or related experience
  • Demonstrated experience in providing a variety of appropriate behavior management techniques with students in the ECE age range
  • Demonstrated experience in basic counseling techniques, interpersonal skills, and classroom management strategies
  • Experience in writing and implementing growth plans
  • Skilled in modeling/coaching appropriate and effective behavioral strategies
  • Familiarity with the school's models that promote the social and emotional health of our young learners (Currently: Pyramid Model, Kelso's Choice, and Zones of Regulation preferred)
  • English proficiency with excellent verbal and written communication skills (required)
    • Level B2 required, C1+ preferred (based on Common European Framework of References for Languages) or equivalent certification such as TOEFL or IETLS.
  • Technological and computer competency (Google Suite, database management, etc.)
  • Ability to work well independently or as part of a team, and provide direction to others when needed
  • Ability to demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills and to exercise sound judgment
  • Eagerness to engage with co-curricular, extra-curricular, school community, and PTO activities that promote the school's programs and reputation
  • Experience with or commitment to learning the International Baccalaureate Programme and commitment to delivering the ISDenver curriculum

Physical Demands:
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee may occasionally be required to bend, stoop or kneel.

Location and Schedule: Expected work hours are 7:45am-3:45pm, M-F; you may have to work outside of these hours periodically. This job does not have remote work flexibility. All employees must be based in Denver, CO.
