Description

Job Summary: Responsible for maintaining and repairing physical structures of buildings and grounds of the various the City facilities.

Major Duties: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Operates various equipment and machinery involved in the daily upkeep of parks including farm tractors, grass mowing equipment, passenger vehicles, dump trucks, frontend loaders and other equipment.
  • Uses small hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance on all equipment, machinery and vehicles.
  • Performs minor carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • Responsible for interaction with the inmate crew.
  • Responsible for maintenance of athletic fields including dragging, lining, mowing, trimming, etc.
  • Picks up litter and empties trash receptacles on a daily basis.
  • Cleans and services restrooms and park buildings
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no Supervisory responsibilities with the exception of occasional direction of inmate workers, based on information provided by the Maintenance Superintendent.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

Some basic computer skills may be required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Driver's License, CDL helpful.

The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
