Job Details

Principal Duties and Responsibilities


  • Responsible for the health of the animals including preventative medicine, treatment and disease control procedures
  • Responsible for the coordination, conduct and aftercare of animals involved in surgical studies in the laboratory.
  • Maintains the facility s USDA license, NIH Animal Welfare Assurance and AAALAC accreditation by assuring compliance with the Federal Animal Welfare Regulations, the Public Health Service policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and recommendations in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
  • Performs surgical procedures and participate in projects where surgical/clinical expertise, postmortem examination, diagnostic expertise, and/or veterinary care are required.
  • Develops SOPs, GLP protocols, study plans, and reports as needed.
  • Trains and supervises personnel in concepts of animal welfare and special techniques.


Qualifications and Skills


  • DVM and a valid state veterinary license.
