Summer Activity Camp: Science in Nature Camp Instructor (Garfield)

The Associated Recreation Council (ARC), in partnership with Seattle Parks & Recreation, is hiring a Science in Nature Camp Instructor. The Science in Nature Instructor will be responsible for programming and delivering fun lesson plans that get kids interested in science in the natural world. Camps are offered to kids aged 6-8. The instructor must have the ability to engage with a diverse group of children and manage a classroom of students. A passion for cooking, kitchen safety, messy science and kids are a must!

Work Weeks:

  • 2 weeks of camp: August 19-23, August 26-30

Camp Schedule:
  • Daily Hours: 1:15pm-5:45pm
  • Paid prep time
  • Work dates are contingent on camps meeting the minimum enrollment

Pay Range:
  • $24.50-$26.50/hr

Activity Camp Location:
  • Garfield Community Center

Summer Activity Camp: Science in Nature Camp Instructor Requirements:
  • Develop and deliver developmentally appropriate activity camp lesson plans/activities related to science and nature to kids ages 6-8 for a camp running 4 hours per day, 20 hours a week
  • Maintain documentation on camp participants to ensure security and youth safety- including but not limited to sign in sheets, medical needs and parenting plans
  • Use critical thinking to problem-solve and manage conflict
  • Generate supply lists for each camp; there will be some class supply funds available
  • Maintain camp appropriate professional appearance
  • Daily set-up, take down and cleaning of space

Summer Activity Camp: Science in Nature Camp Instructor Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Prior youth programming experience required
  • Must have demonstrated working experience working with families, community members and partners to foster positive relationships
