Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Construction Instructor to join our team in the Maple Street Correctional Facility. The primary responsibility of the Construction Instructor will be to develop and deliver training programs, utilizing virtual reality technology, to trainees aspiring to pursue careers in the construction industry. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in traditional construction techniques and possess expertise in the use of Virtual Reality (VR) equipment to enhance hands-on construction training. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability needed for this position.Essential Job Functions

  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum for construction trainees, combining traditional teaching methods with virtual reality training techniques.
  2. Utilize virtual reality equipment to create realistic construction work environments and scenarios for hands-on training simulations.
  3. Instruct trainees on proper construction techniques, safety measures, and best practices.
  4. Design and deliver engaging training sessions in both classroom and virtual reality settings, ensuring trainees gain practical skills and knowledge.
  5. Assess trainees' understanding and progress by conducting regular evaluations and providing constructive feedback and coaching.
  6. Collaborate with the JobTrain and Maple Street instructional teams and industry experts to research and incorporate the latest advancements in construction and virtual reality training techniques.
  7. Develop and maintain training materials, including manuals and presentations.
  8. Establish and clarify acceptable standards for student behavior (in accordance with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department and demonstrate effective classroom management skills.
  9. Assist JobTrain and the Sheriff's Department in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct; and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and attendance.
  10. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintain such records as required by JobTrain and our partners.
  11. Serve as a role model to students in the areas of appearance, actions, behaviors and interpersonal interactions with peers.
  12. Cooperates with other members of staff in planning curriculum and instructional methods, goals and objectives.
  13. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about student trainees and all staff.
  14. Maintain a professional relationship with inmates and colleagues.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:
  1. Preference will be given to candidates who can display industry knowledge and related work experience.
  2. Familiarity and relatable work experience in the Construction Trades or educator in related vocational instruction.
  3. Familiarity with construction techniques, tools and ability to teach those skills.
  4. Strong math skills related to the construction industry.
  5. Comfortable using and instructing through advanced technology.

  2. Maintain strength of knowledge and practice in instructional skills and strategies.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and seek support for strategies to improve classroom.
  4. Maintain confidentiality when dealing with inmate trainees and JobTrain/Sheriff Department staff.
  5. Communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds.
  6. Identify and support challenging behaviors through positive behavior supports.
Education/Experience

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent, and three years related trade industry and instruction experience; or high school, college or career technical education level of instruction experience; Or
  2. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  3. OSHA Instructor certification. We will also consider candidates with 5 years of general industry safety experience who will certify as OSHA Instructor during employment.

Preferred but not required:
  1. Individuals with a current or previous General Contractors License.
  2. Previous corrections or reentry experience.


Successful applicants must have excellent written, verbal, organizational, interpersonal communication, and computer skills.

Compensation and Benefits:

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $29.90 - $35.18/hr.To Apply
