Welding Engineer

Job Details

Build the Path Forward

At Path Robotics, we're attacking a trillion dollar opportunity - doing things that have never been done before to support an industry hurting from a lack of skilled labor. Big, hard problems are what Path tackles every day and our people are our greatest asset to get that job done. Our intelligent, hardworking team of people do the impossible every single day, yet remain incredibly kind, humble, and always ready to support one another.

We are looking for a Welding Engineer who will work side-by-side with a team of welding engineers to develop an autonomous robotic welding system capable of automatically generating custom motion plans and weld parameters for any part that it sees. You will also support teams with welding experiments, generating the data that propels our technology forward. You will join a team of dedicated, supportive, and enthusiastic people to help create the future of manufacturing.

What You'll Do

  • Run weld parameter selection experiments to identify a range of welding parameters (voltage, wire speed, travel speed) that can be used for new customer applications
  • Partner with robotics engineers to develop a set of rules for how to move the workpiece and robot end-effector to automate trajectory generation
  • Perform robotic welding experiments to test other systems in development including sensors and inspection systems, path planning and welding strategies, and new hardware
  • Work with our hardware team to fabricate test coupons for application feasibility testing and other in-house experiments
  • Minimum of 25% travel required, in which you will be interfacing and working directly with customers.
  • Program and operate 6-axis robot arms
  • Manually weld coupons and other test parts when needed
  • Use powered shop tools to cut and etch weld samples

Who You Are
  • You have 5+ experience developing procedures for robotic arc welding applications
  • You are proficient in programming industrial robotics including Yaskawa, ABB, Kuka, and Fanuc platforms
  • You have a background in fusion-based weld parameter development for several metal alloys
  • You have experience with metal additive manufacturing
  • You understand dynamic robotic welding technologies including adaptive fill, touch sensing, and seam tracking
  • You are proficient with manual welding processes including GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and SMAW
  • You understand weld symbology and print interpretation
  • You have experience with Design of Experiment (DoE) principles
  • You have experience with ROS (Robot Operating System)
  • You are excited by the opportunity to be a part of a venture-backed startup early on, where your work will have an immediate and direct impact
  • You are passionate about what you do and enjoy working in a collaborative environment
  • You like the idea of working at a tech company with all the perks that go with that- free lunch, unlimited time off, team events, and great benefits
