Our Security / Dispatch team is seeking a full time and part time Dispatcher to join their team!

General Position Summary:

Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating communications throughout the hospital and associated facilities during both emergency events and day-to-day operations. Position acts as central point of contact for outside agencies during emergencies, with vendors and contractors for facility access and for visitors and patients with problems or concerns. Answers and routes incoming and outgoing phone calls via the main switchboard and the "red phone".

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:

Answers/routes phone calls using kind, welcoming tone and phrases.

Dispatches security guards where needed.

Issues Employee Identification Cards.

Dispatches plant services employees where needed.

Proficient in radio communications protocol.

Monitors the security camera system for unusual events and activities.

Directs patients and visitors to designated areas.

Uses handheld radio and overhead P/A system to communicate with staff.

Makes Code announcements as required.

Issues temporary access badges to vendors and contactors.

Maintains the Lost and Found function.

Coordinates communications with Police and Fire Departments.

Displays proper etiquette and mannerisms that reflect the SHINE Behavior Standards.

Promotes the Patient Safety Standards as a core value of the organization.

Coordinates dispatch functions in assigning EVS employees to areas/rooms where EVS attention is needed.

Becomes proficient in security camera digital footage retrieval and storage.

Secondary Functions:

Participates in departmental and association wide informational meetings and in-services, including staff meetings, association forums, and seminars.

Reviews department and hospital wide policies and procedures annually.

All other duties as assigned.

Additional / Seasonal Responsibilities:

Additional phone calls during flu season regarding flu shots.

Are usually with visitors, staff, physicians, fire and police officials.

Specific Job Skills & Mental Activities:

This position requires operational knowledge of all equipment in the Security Department, including: security cameras, printer, copy machine, phone systems, radios, fire alarm control panel (FACP) and P/A system.

This employee must be service oriented and have excellent customer service skills, computer skills, organizational skills, multitasking skills, professional interpersonal skills, time management skills, the ability to prioritize work, telephone etiquette, and must abide by all HIPAA rules and regulations.

This employee must be able to function in a high stress area with multiple priorities and multiple sources of request, with a fast pace in decision making.

Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

90 Days

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent (required).

Basic computer skills (required).

One year related experience (preferred).

Physical Demands & Job Conditions:

Light

Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Worker is exposed to extensive computer work and may include encounters with upset/disturbed individuals.

Physical motions include finger dexterity, standing, walking, talking, reaching, feeling, sitting, bending, grasping, listening/hearing, handling, lifting up to 20 pounds, and repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and feet.

This is considered a safety-sensitive position.
