Job Duties

The EEO Intake Specialist will assist the EEO Intake manager with registering incoming complaints of discrimination; determining the disposition of complaints; and answering public inquiries. The successful candidate will analyze complaints to confirm jurisdiction and ensure they fall within applicable statutes of limitations and under statutes enforced by the Office of Civil Rights. The candidate will also verify respondent identities and information regarding probable cause. With the assistance of the EEO Intake Manager, this position can develop into: preparing written notices of investigation and assigning cases to investigators; referring complaints to applicable state or federal agencies; and dismissing complaints that do not fall under the OCR's jurisdiction. The successful candidate will also update and maintain information in OCR's databases and case management systems, dual-file employment discrimination complaints with the EEOC, and proofread materials for correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, required format, and compliance with correspondence procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • The successful candidate must have the ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks, excellent written and verbal communications skills, strong organizational and time management skills, ability to work independently and as a team member, the ability to organize and analyze large quantities of information, and a keen attention to detail.
  • Candidates should also demonstrate computer proficiency with word processing and database management systems (Microsoft products preferred) and the ability to handle confidential documents.

Additional Considerations
  • Applicants must be a high school graduate or possess a general education diploma ("GED").
  • A related undergraduate degree with major course work or experience in public administration, criminal justice, mediation, or a pre-law discipline or related fields is preferred; or equivalent experience.
  • Course work or experience in Equal Employment Opportunity ("EEO") issues, or other related subject matter areas is an advantage.
  • Although fluency in Spanish is not required, fluency in Spanish is a plus.
