**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :**
* Coach members in support of their desired behavior change. Regularly checks on members progress in meeting personal and program goals.
* Answer questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
* Build effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA. Introduces new members to group exercise communities based on their health and well-being goals.
* Utilize tools and information for the purpose of increasing member knowledge of wellness as well as wellness programs provided through the YMCA (handouts, schedules, etc.).
* Through eye contact, body language, voice and general presence, the trainer must always communicate accessibility to members, by circulating through the rooms, making eye contact and introducing themselves to members.
* Conduct wellness center orientations and tours, consistent with the Wellness Department training design. This involves teaching members how to implement a basic personal exercise program, using YMCA equipment and facilities.
* Supervise member's behavior and exhibit patience and tact while ensuring adherence to member code of conduct and Wellness Center rules and procedures.
* Anticipate and or quickly react to, member conflicts and takes appropriate corrective action.
* Always is well groomed and presentable, wearing appropriate YMCA staff shirt and nametag.
* Responsible for securing another staff as for coverage when unable to work scheduled shift, and effectively communicating the substitution to the Wellness Director.
* Maintain and clean equipment regularly, according to the schedule or as requested by supervisor.
* Demonstrate ability to relate to and work with people of diverse backgrounds.
* Practice risk management by anticipating potential safety hazards and taking appropriate action to reduce or eliminate the risk while reacting quickly and effectively to any emergency.
* Has a thorough knowledge of all branch emergency procedures and assist with the emergency evacuation of the building and other special situation tasks, as needed.
* Safeguard any malfunctioning fitness equipment with an "out of order" sign, records updates in maintenance log and informs Wellness Director.
* Continuing education must be upheld in regard to knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and biomechanics and their relationship to the development of strength, cardiovascular, and movement patterns within the body.
* Participate in appropriate staff meetings and training activities and maintain CPR/ First Aid and all relevant certificates required for the role.
* The effectiveness of this position should be observable and measured by membership satisfaction surveys and evaluations, both formal and casual.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
* Actively participate and support the Annual Campaign.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications; Bloodborne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
- Personal Training Certification (otherwise obtained within 90days)
- Available for various shifts available from 5am-9pm Monday-Friday, and 7am-5pm weekends.
