Mission Bit is a San Francisco-based nonprofit that inspires youth of color to explore the world of STEM with project-based computer science education that embraces their identities.
The role
As the Summer Learning Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting and engaging our instructors.

This is a part-time, hybrid role based in the San Francisco Bay Area with some local travel required. 20 hours per week.
Schedule:
- Present through August 2, 2024
- Monday-Thursday, 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM; evenings and other days occasionally required
What you'll be doing:Program support - Work collaboratively with the Innovative Learning Manager in planning, development, communication, and implementation of Mission Bit's vision
- Maintain cross-functional communication across teams to support common goals
- Participate in and support Mission Bit activities
Mentorship and coaching - Support instructors in their day-to-day and inspire them to use culturally responsive teaching strategies to create ongoing access to high-quality learning
- Ensure that the joy of learning is evident in our classrooms and that each of us is doing our part to shape the next generation of responsible, compassionate, global citizens
- Conduct regular class observations at our sites in San Francisco, Oakland, and Menlo Park and share insights that can help our staff or program thrive
- Capture and share best practices/lessons learned to ensure continuous improvement and to support the development of new educators
- Support and facilitate training efforts
- Facilitate regular staff meetings
Administration - Regularly update the calendar with upcoming meetings, events, and activities so that staff have access to accurate information
- Maintain accurate staff notes and communication
- Other related duties as assigned
RequirementsWe'd love to hear from you if you... - Have at least two years of experience working in educational or youth-support settings (examples of experience include, but aren't limited to, teacher, paraeducator, museum educator, camp counselor, and afterschool program staff)
- Have a passion for education and supporting youth
- Are comfortable in public speaking settings and have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Have experience working with a diverse group of individuals
- Have values aligned with Mission Bit's mission
- Are comfortable suggesting and implementing new ideas that improve the quality and integrity of Mission Bit and our programming. You understand that there are always new opportunities for improvement and ways to elevate our standards
It's not required, but it's a nice bonus if you... - Have experience in project-based learning, asset-based teaching, and/or culturally relevant teaching
- Have experience with coding (HTML, CSS, C#, Python) or Unity
- Have experience in management/leadership
- Have experience working with youth from under-resourced communities
Benefits $23-$25 / hour
