CALLING ALL EHS ATTORNEYS!!


My client is looking for a dynamic, strategic, and experienced attorney to join their legal team as Senior Counsel for EHS. In this crucial role, you'll provide legal support, guidance, and collaboration on environmental and occupational health and safety issues. Your expertise will be key in ensuring regulatory compliance and promoting a safe and sustainable work environment. As part of their global chemical company, you'll closely collaborate with cross-functional teams, contributing to our commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainability.


Responsibilities:

1) Compliance with Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety:

  • Offer legal advice on relevant areas including air quality, waste management, wastewater, and compliance with occupational health & safety regulations.
  • Work with EHS&S (Environment, Health, Safety, and Security) teams to create and execute company-wide initiatives, incorporating sustainability objectives.
  • Anticipate, evaluate, and address legal implications in significant business decisions regarding EHS matters.
  • Educate internal stakeholders on EHS laws, regulations, and best practices for compliance.
  • Keep abreast of evolving trends in EHS laws and regulations in the US and relevant international jurisdictions (e.g., EU).

2) Regulatory Agency Engagement:

  • Supervise external legal representation concerning EHS issues.
  • Investigate and address requests for information, notices of violation, and citations issued by governmental agencies.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and proceedings with regulatory bodies.

3) Due Diligence and Site Cleanup:

  • Supervise legal assistance for EHS due diligence in mergers and acquisitions.
  • Support ongoing projects for site remediation, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

4) Policy Development and Implementation:

  • Offer legal guidance on EHSS policies and procedures.
  • Draft and execute policies to improve safety, environmental preservation, and sustainability.


Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years of legal practice concentrated on environmental and workplace safety and health concerns, preferably within the chemical, heavy manufacturing, or energy sectors.
  • Previous experience as in-house counsel, familiarity with U.S. air compliance, and exposure to EHS matters abroad are advantageous.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and international EHS regulations.
  • Capability to collaborate efficiently with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
