This role will travel with the Provider to all Galen locations and will be a 4 day, 10 hour shift, Monday through Thursday

The Medical Scribe is responsible for assisting providers with patient care by controlling patient flow, obtaining and documenting the history and vital signs, performing assigned procedures, and providing patient education. Accompanies provider in room and documents clinical notes, laboratory results, prescription refills, procedures, billing information, and any other documentation as directed by the provider.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, including but not limited to:
    • Patient medical history and physical exam,
    • Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants.
    • Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits.
    • Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions, and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up
    • Prepare referral letters as directed by the physician
  • Ensures medical record compliance by self-documentation attestation.
  • Prepares and sends all documentation to physicians for review and approval via authentication of detailed data entry and facility-specific procedures.
  • Monitors the duration of basic lab results and screening procedures.
  • Performs other clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant Certification from a Nationally Accredited Institution.
  • CPR trained and certified.

Experience:
  • 6 months or more experience as a Medical Scribe.
  • 6 months or more related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills/Certifications:
  • Medical terminology experience.
  • Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record exam details.
  • Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications.
  • Legible handwriting and ability to accurately record information.
  • Organizational skills with a focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.
  • Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families.
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.
