Position: Director of Continuous Operations

Location: Salt Lake City, UT. Relocation support is available.

Travel: 10% travel. Primarily to NH & TX and possibly Mexico.

Position Overview:

As a vital member of our client s senior leadership team, you will be entrusted with overseeing safety, quality, cost, delivery, and responsiveness performance, fostering continuous improvement, employee engagement, and teamwork within the facilities you oversee, and playing a pivotal role in developing the facility leadership team.

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will lead a team of four Operations Managers, collectively managing 33 Supervisors. Operating in 700,000 sq ft, this is a 24/7 environment with approximately 390 team members in Operations, and it is projected to expand to 500 in the near term. You will collaborate closely with peers, including the Director of Continuous Improvement, Engineering, and Quality.

Key responsibilities will include meeting day-to-day objectives, achieving targets, effectively creating and executing recovery plans, and holding accountable team members, reports, and peers.

This role includes a competitive salary (targeted between $180-200K), annual bonus (14%), long-term incentive (8%), generous PTO, and full benefits.

Client Summary:

Our client is a global leader in advanced composite manufacturing, specializing in aerostructures and components for various fixed-wing, rotor-wing, missile, and airframe platforms. Positioned as a mid-sized industry player, they excel in crafting highly customized composite parts and assemblies. They produce complete structural units, flight-critical components, and primary/secondary structural elements. Their expertise empowers customers to leverage lightweight, high-performance composites in applications with intricate performance or geometry requirements. Renowned platforms incorporating their products include the F-35 Lightning II, CH-53K Heavy-lift Helicopter, JASSM, and G600.

We seek a candidate with a track record of successfully guiding an Operations organization through new product/program launches within a growth environment. Experience in the fast-paced aerospace manufacturing realm or a similarly demanding manufacturing environment (e.g., automotive, industrial) is preferred. An engineering background is advantageous due to the highly technical nature of our client's products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead safety programs to foster a culture of safe work habits and reduce incidents.
  • Direct facility manufacturing operations, ensuring achievement of growth targets and communicating performance to key stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute annual operational business plans, anticipating equipment needs to support growth.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to deliver integrated services and products while meeting financial goals and enhancing customer satisfaction.
  • Partner with the Continuous Improvement (CI) Director to establish a CI culture, implement Lean Manufacturing techniques, and drive cost improvements.
  • Enhance the Quality System, ensure compliance through audits, and maintain positive customer relationships.
  • Improve talent and scalability through HR collaboration, driving employee engagement through CI and inclusion.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and quality regulations while remaining flexible for potential changes in responsibilities.
  • Perform other necessary duties and remain flexible for potential changes in responsibilities.

Primary Position Requirement:

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in engineering or operations. A Master s Degree is a plus.
  • Experience: Over 10 years of experience in a regulated manufacturing environment is a prerequisite, including a successful track record of holding full responsibility for an Operations organization. Experience within a growing aerospace manufacturing environment or similarly fast-paced and demanding environments such as automotive or industrial is required.
  • Accountability: Proven experience in holding both a team of direct Operations reports and support function peers (e.g., CI, Engineering, Quality) accountable for achieving EBITDA growth targets and annual operation plan objectives is essential.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively with the Salt Lake City Leadership Team to successfully deliver an integrated set of services and products to customers while meeting the financial performance goals defined by the business plan and corporate strategies is essential.
  • Continuous Improvement: It is important to demonstrate success in driving a culture of continuous improvement and achieving cost improvements through CI/Lean Manufacturing techniques on the shop floor.
  • Availability/Travel: It is important to be able to support a 24/7 schedule and be available as business situations require, including some travel.
