**Location:** West Haven, CT, US, 06516 **Environmental, Health and Safety Manager**

* An important part of the position is to create a proactive EHS culture utilizing lean manufacturing principles, continually improving KPIs.

* Manage environmental permitting and licensing for ongoing plant operations. Manage approval process for amending and generating new permits.

* Directly supervises employees dealing with safety and environmental issues.

* Establish strong relationships with state and federal regulatory officials and assist in the development of strong relationships with appropriate company risk coordinators and local regulatory staff.

* Oversee all wastewater treatment operations to include collection and analysis of effluent discharge, water supplies, air emissions and storm-water collection and discharge. Maintain working relationship with external water provider and oversee completion of permit-required duties where appropriate.

* Manage land area and grounds maintenance of the site including mowing, landscape management, trash, recycling, parking lot and any other areas deemed necessary...

* Manage Environmental, Health and Safety department to include budgeting, management of personnel and achievement of objectives.

* Responsible for leading all aspects of safety including compliance initiatives, training development, risk assessment, reporting, program management, etc.

* Develop and maintain safety training programs and a safety culture that promotes a workplace free of injuries. This includes but is not limited to developing or refining specific training i.e. emergency response, qualified electrical, PSM, respiratory protection, etc. Evaluates utilization of corporate training process and material in conjunction with local needs.

* Keep supervisory/management personnel apprised to eliminate hazardous condition and unsafe practices.

* Work closely with corporate staff to implement company initiative and to lead change in large manufacturing plants.

* Prepare and report as directed on weekly KPI reports for use by senior management.

* Participate in Group sustainability activities.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

* Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Environmental Science/Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience. Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in environmental management or utility/waste water operations. CSP or CHMM preferred.

* Work experience in EHS at plant level.

* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

* Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

* Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

* Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.

* Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

* Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making ability without oversight / approval.

* Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

* Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.

* Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.

* Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

* Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.

* Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, and works with the fingers.

* Involves sedentary physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a primarily administrative nature.

* Should be able to ability to identify and distinguish colors, focus on objects, and see at 20 inches or less.
