At BMC, the dedicated Inventory Control Manager's primary responsibility is to maintain and account for accurate inventory levels. This detail-oriented individual will manage and coordinate the purchasing of materials.

**Major Responsibilities:**

- Compile data from sources such as contracts, purchase orders, invoices, requisitions, and accounting reports; and write, type, or enter information into mainframe computer system to maintain inventory, purchasing, and shipping records.

- Keep backorder file in established sequence and release backorders for issue or shipment as stock becomes available.

- Analyze stock control records and information such as consumption rate, characteristics of items in storage, and current market conditions, to determine stock supply.

- Prepare requisitions, orders, or other documents for purchasing or requisitioning new or additional stock items.

- Review files to determine unused items and recommend disposal of excess stock.

- Perform cycle counts of inventory comparing actual counts to computer stock status.

- May be responsible for researching sales and purchasing history in order to resolve discrepancies.

- Coordinate SKU's with vendor representatives to facilitate buying, receiving, and identification of products.

- Prepare list of depleted items and recommends survey of defective or unusable items.

- Has management responsibility for inventory receiving specialists.

- Negotiate terms to ensure each unit is maximizing its return on net working capital and DPO.

- Maintain consistent quality and best possible terms.

- Review requisitions.

- Confer with vendors to obtain information on materials, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.

- Determine method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid.

- Obtain quotes, prepare purchase orders or bid requests.

- Review bid proposals and negotiate contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.

- Review sales activity to determine needs and demand.

- Discuss defective or unacceptable materials with vendor, sales representative, or the inspector to determine source of trouble and to take corrective action.

- Coordinate trucking schedules; establish relationship with trucking firms to obtain best possible rates; expedite delivery of goods to users; monitor files and order follow up.

- Problem solve -- deal with incorrect invoicing, quality, and shipping schedules -- and take corrective action, if necessary.

- Conduct off-site visits to suppliers and wholesalers to establish rapport, and to gain knowledge of business and inventory needs.

- May supervise the inventory control efforts for the market.

- May assist with inside sales, customer service, stocking store merchandise, and answering telephones.

- Demonstrate a commitment to the quality improvement process and the philosophy of continuous improvement.

- Identify and respond actively and with sensitivity to the needs of all customers.

- Participate as a team player in all phases of the organization.

- Open and responsive to change.

- Personally provide customers with knowledgeable, courteous, and prompt service at all times.

- Comply with all Company policies and procedures.

- Adhere to the Companys safety standards and enforce safety regulations.

- Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

- Minimum Education: Associates degree in related field preferred or High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

- Must have industry knowledge.

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of organization.

- Strong Excel capabilities (compute rate, ratios, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs).

- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

- Relatively tech-savvy.

- Thorough knowledge of full product line and yard/store operations.

- Requires use of tact to avoid conflict in carrying out assignments, as well as exercising continuous judgment.

- Ability to meet multiple deadlines and work under stress.

Required Experience

- Minimum Experience:

- At least 5 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Must have industry knowledge.
