Nature of Work

Under the guidance of a Recreation Coordinator, the Youth & Teen Programs Recreation Leader plans and implements after school activities for grades 6-8, leads small group trips for ages 10-17, and assists with special events for ages 10-17. This is a 15-25 hour position that will work afternoons, Monday - Friday, and some Saturdays during the school year, with the potential to increase to 35-40 hours during school breaks and summer.

Hiring Range: $18.567 - $19.50 DOQ
Duties and Responsibilities

Plans and implements youth after school activities, leads teen trips, and assists with special events under supervision of a Recreation Coordinator. Acts as a mentor to youth volunteers. Drives a 15 passenger and minivan daily.

Completes light custodial work and equipment set-up and break-down in accordance with assignments. Maintains supply inventory and procures supplies for planned activities. Submits receipts for materials to supervisor in a timely manner.

Represents the City of Northglenn in a positive manner, utilizing excellent customer service when interacting with numerous organizations and individuals, including patrons and fellow employees. Participates in and attends trainings. Values diversity; demonstrates awareness and sensitivity and adapts behaviors and communications to accommodate these differences.

Responds proactively with written and verbal communication in an appropriate manner, including phone calls, emails, and in-person interactions. Maintain attendance records for assigned events and activities.

Follows appropriate opening and closing procedures. Documents accidents and incidents in the program. Encourages patron adherence to operating policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws when necessary. Maintains confidentiality of participant information.
Education and Experience

Must be age 21 or older and have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of college preferred.

At least 3 months (460 hours) of full-time or equivalent part-time satisfactory and verifiable experience with school-age children.

Skill in customer service, communication, and cash handling.

Knowledge of arts and crafts, sports, enrichment, or other recreational activities.
Supplemental Information

Must possess at time of employment and maintain a valid Colorado motor vehicle operator's license and good driving record.

Drives a 15 passenger and minivan daily.

Must obtain and retain current CPR/FA/UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS/AED AND MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION CERTIFICATIONS

Able to lift 50 lbs.

DESCRIPTION & BENEFITS

Regular Full-Time

Employee works in a position that is classified as 40 hours per week. Eligible for full benefit package including medical, dental, life and LTD insurance; pension and general leave and optional benefits.

Regular Part-Time 30+

Employee works in a position that is classified as 30+ hours per week. City pays contribution toward employee only medical and dental insurance. Employee can pay the difference to cover spouse and/or children. Life & LTD insurance coverage is provided. Employee participates in the City's pension plan and the City contributes to the plan. Employee accrues general leave on a pro-rated basis and optional benefits.

Regular Part-Time 20+

Employee works in a position that is classified as 20+ hours per week but less than 30 hours. City pays contribution toward employee only medical insurance. Employee accrues general leave on a pro-rated basis and the City pays 3.75% toward deferred compensation and optional benefits.

Regular Part-Time

(less than 20 hours/wk)

Employee works is a position that is classified as less than 20 hours per week. Employee accrues general leave on a pro-rated basis and the City pays 3.75% toward deferred compensation.

Part-Time (No Benefits)

Employee works in a position that is classified as a "no benefit" position (i.e., Fitness Instructor, Scorekeeper, Substitute Lifeguard). Employee is not eligible for benefits and pays 7.5% toward deferred compensation.

Seasonal/Temporary

Employee works in a position that is classified as a short-term position, is not eligible for benefits and pays 7.5% toward deferred compensation.
