Principal Process Engineer

Location: US Gulf Coast (Louisiana or Texas) or willingness to travel to these locations on a regular basis


Trillium Renewable Chemicals is building a more sustainable future through chemistry. We have raised Seed, Series A, and Series B financing rounds and have been featured in Bloomberg, Chemical & Engineering News, won multiple Department of Energy Awards, and recently were named one of the Top 10 Startups for 2023. Our patented technology converts renewable feedstocks like glycerol to acrylonitrile, a monomer for acrylic fibers, carbon fibers, and other valuable raw materials like ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) plastic. We are building a demonstration scale plant deemed Falcon that will be built in 2024 and commissioned/operated in 2025. We are looking for an experienced process engineer to support engineering activities related to the design and operation of Falcon and a first commercial plant.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical expert and hands on engineer from design to construction, through commissioning and operations of the Falcon plant. Seeking specific expertise in one or more of the following areas:

>>Fluidized bed reactor design and operation

>>Selection of materials of construction

>>ASPEN modeling

  • Identify needs, specify equipment and resources, procure equipment/resources, and collaborate with partners to meet requirements
  • Advising on process safety / safety in design
  • Interfacing with engineering service providers, industrial site host, and suppliers
  • Preparing engineering specifications of a first-of-a-kind demonstration and commercial plant based on pilot-scale test results


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive work experience in the chemical process industry
  • Broad process engineering competence with ability to engineer solutions for chemical processes
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in scaling chemical process technology from pilot to demo/commercial scale
  • Direct experience with commercial design of novel chemical process technology
  • Experience with fluid bed reactor scaleup and design


Travel

Depending on the location of the selected candidate, significant business travel may be required to the field site for the demonstration scale plant (Project Falcon) to be located on the US Gulf Coast.
