***Primary Summary:***

The YMCA focus is to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Wellness Director, the full-time Health Coach will motivate, support, and give guidance to participants in the YMCA health and wellness programs. The incumbent will support and guide participants on a path through behavior change. The Health Coach will engage new and existing members through association recommended electronic tracking systems orientations that assist them in proper use of equipment and also rules and guidelines of the fitness areas. Provides a quality experience to members and guests focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

***Essential Functions:***

* Smile, greet and engage members, staff, and others who come into the Fitness Area.

* Maintain a polite and positive attitude at all times.

* Assist members using weight equipment, as needed.

* Thoroughly clean equipment and complete the cleaning checklist. This includes stacking up the weights, etc.

* Seek, report, review shift change information prior to the start of each shift.

* Circulate through the Fitness area, including the gym while interacting with members making eye contact and trying to engage.

* Conduct Fitness Consultations and Orientations as scheduled.

* Submit repair requests for equipment.

* Promote all wellness activities and special events.

* Attends all staff meetings and required training programs.

* Other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.

***Minimum Requirements:***

* This position requires an understanding of basic exercise methodology and be able to instruct, supervise and reinforce proper fitness procedures as well as equipment usage in fitness area.

* Completion of Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y, Foundations of Listen First, Principles of Member and Wellness and Foundations of Strength and Conditioning supplemental course via Learning & Career Development Center prior to start date.

* Successful completion of background screening

* Acquire and maintain the following certifications prior to start date via YMCA, American Red Cross, American Heart Association and American Health and Safety Institute (ASHI):

* First Aid/CPR /AED (valid 2 years unless otherwise noted)

* Requisite Online Training Modules (completed prior to start date and repeated annually).

**Physical Demands:**

* Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond, or special accommodations made of sufficient nature for completion of assigned tasks.

* Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communication.

* Ability to walk, stoop, kneel, push, pull, climb, work in a confined space, and carry and lift a maximum of 50 pounds.

* Ability to adapt to change quickly and take responsibility for the health and safety of others.
