Job Overview

The Pipefitter Sprinkler Mechanic will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and testing of all types of automatic sprinkler systems and associated equipment (i.e., air compressors, backflow devices, and valves). Will install, modify, and repair sprinkler systems using standard pipe schedule formulas per NFPA 13; inspect, test, and maintain water-based fire protection systems including the trip testing of pre-action, deluge, and dry valves per NFPA 25; service and maintain stationary fire pumps for fire protection in accordance with NFPA 20; and service and maintain foam-water systems in accordance with NFPA 16A. As part of the fire shop this position will involve cross training on basic FACP operation.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

* Performs routine maintenance and repairs (installs, tests, and repairs sprinkler switches; flows, tamper, and/or pressure switches) on wet or dry sprinkler systems.

* Maintains and repairs the different clappers, valves, water gongs, pipe structures, retard chambers, as well as any other devices or trim parts necessary for normal operations.

* Performs fire suppression duties necessary to maintain all buildings and structures in good repair.

* Develop NFPA 72 and other related reports.

* Assists with installation, inspections, periodic tests, maintenance, and repairs installed suppression systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications and National Fire Protection Association standards. May be asked to cross-train with the fire alarm team on occasions.

* Inspects fire suppression equipment visually and replaces defective components.

* Checks suppression system pressure gauges and recharges or replaces containers as needed.

* Plans and lays out work from blueprints, drawings, models, and verbal and written instructions.

* Plans, organizes work, and meets all deadlines.

* Coordinates with other personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies, and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.

* Submits outage requests and isolates system as needed to conduct repairs and maintenance.

* Responds to emergency site maintenance as required.

* Operates customer and company motor vehicles and/or other equipment in a safe manner.

* Supports other department staff as needed or directed.

* Adheres to the company safety and personnel policies and standard operating procedures.

* Ability to work overtime as needed.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:

* Minimum of two (2) years experience in the fire sprinkler and suppression maintenance field.

* Possess or obtain a NICET I certification in Fire Sprinkler Systems - Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems within twelve (12) months of hire.

* Possess or obtain a NICET II certification in Fire Sprinkler Systems - Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems within eighteen (18) months of hire.

* Must be able to test, inspect, maintain, install, troubleshoot and repair various fire suppression systems (water, chemical, pre-action/dry systems) with minimal supervision.

* Experience with water and chemical agents (Halon) suppression systems.

* Familiar with Kitchen Hood Fire Suppression systems.

* Experience generating NFPA and or similar reports.

* Extensive knowledge of applicable codes and standards.

* Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.

* Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.

* U.S. Citizenship.

* Ability to obtain and maintain the required intelligence community security clearance.

* Ability to pass pre-hire background and drug screen.

* Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

* Ability to lift 50 pounds and team lift 75 pounds.
