Summary:
The Skilled Laborer Civil is responsible for performing construction maintenance tasks of a skilled nature: finishing concrete, laying bricks and blocks, and operating vehicles and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assist in building and positioning forms for pouring concrete and dismantles forms after use, using saws, hammers, nails, bolts or form hardware,
* Dig ditches and levels earth to grade specifications, using pick, shovels and rakes,
* Score and break asphalt or concrete with a jackhammer,
* Spreading gravel, asphalt and other materials over surfaces,
* Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, clean up rubble and debris and remove waste materials,
* Installation of erosion and sediment controls (i.e. silt fence, super silt fence, gutter buddies, etc.),
* Participates in demolitions,
* Erects and disassembles scaffolding, braces, barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures,
* Erects concrete forms and scaffolding,
* Apply waterproofing and sealant to protect concrete work,
* Moving materials to the worksite and ensuring all tools, machinery, and other equipment are safely set up,
* May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
* Additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
* High school diploma or equivalent required,
* Must have 2 years of experience working in heavy highway construction,
* Complete understanding of OSHA and company safety requirements,
* Ability to kneel, bend and lift heavy materials,
* Ability to measure accurately and read specifications,
* Good communication skills,
* Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in general street maintenance and construction work.,
* Knowledge of the methods and practices of pouring and finishing concrete,
* OSHA 30 preferred,
* Flagger License desired,
* COVID-19, vaccination is highly recommended,
* Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.
