Job Details

The Sports & Events(S&E) Business Planning Manager is the primary Sports & Events department liaison with the IT department in the development and implementation of enhancements to the department's systems and processes. This includes front-end documentation for programming projects, responding to IT questions during programming, acting as the initial tester, and providing support to sport directors/managers during detailed testing. The Sports & Events Business Planning Manager analyzes department business procedures and recommends programming enhancements and/or the application of new technology to improve internal efficiency and provide better customer service. The position coordinates projects that impact multiple sports to ensure consistency of approach.

*This position is based in our Raleigh, NC office.

Primary Job Duties

  • Represent the Sports & Events department as the lead liaison with the Information Technology Department.
  • Provide front-end documentation to IT staff to familiarize them with the purpose and nuances of the project they will be programming.
  • Lead the initial User Acceptance Testing (UAT) of software changes. Communicate with IT in a timely manner to maintain momentum with fixes to keep the project moving forward.
  • Assist sport directors/managers during periods of detailed testing of software changes.
  • Analyze S&Es business procedures. Suggest efficiency and customer service improvements through process modifications and the application of technology.
  • Analyze and evaluate program risks and use problem-solving skills to suggest actions to mitigate risks.
  • Coordinate projects across multiple sports and work effectively with sports staff. This oversight ensures a consistency of approach across the sports.
  • Develop and track project plans to communicate project goals, requirements, and status.
  • Through the programming of reports, provide data to S&E department in a timely manner that provides insights into initiatives under consideration.
  • Represent S&E in the review, planning, development, and implementation of corporate initiatives.


Required Skills, Specialized Knowledge and Competency Requirements

  • Experience in managing projects and leading people to project success
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in order to effectively lead projects and people
  • Knowledge and experience with AKC Sports
  • Experience in software design and development preferred
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and perform within a confined timeframe
  • Flexibility to handle several projects simultaneously
  • A positive attitude toward identifying and developing solutions and meeting deliverable dates
  • Above average skills in office software including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Pro, and Outlook
  • Ability to understand the wider objectives of a project, such as business and strategic
  • The position requires availability outside of normal work hours and evening and weekend work is required as per business
  • The role requires occasional travel to dog shows and remote work is available based on the business and department needs
