To learn OD operations and culture while learning safe and effective ways to load and unload freight and complete several projects throughout the internship, eventually "filling-in" for the operations supervisor during the last few weeks of the program
Primary Responsibilities
- Learn dock operations by shadowing team members and various supervisors and managers at the location
- Learn to effectively and safely operate a forklift
- Assist in securing freight inside trailers, learning appropriate tools and supplies
- Participate in monitoring the daily safety of each employee
- Learn and participate in evaluating and teaching safe lifting techniques
- Learn proper loading and unloading techniques and ensure compliance
- Learn the service center operations and make suggestions for improvements
- Learn DOT and OSHA regulations and ensure compliance
- Learn to effectively use computer/internal freight monitoring systems
- Develop an understanding of various forms such as shipping orders, city stripping manifests, freight bills, overage/damage movement reports and exception forms
- Successfully complete projects as assigned
Job QualificationsEducation:
- High school diploma or equivalent, currently attending college
Experience:
- Willingness to learn operations and complete assigned projects
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Great interpersonal skills with a positive attitude
Working Days:Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday,Friday,
Working Shift:AM / PM
