Summary:

The Research Technician will join the Aquatic Intermittency effects on Microbiomes in Streams (AIMS) project, which is a large collaborative team of scientists focused on understanding the role of microbiomes and stream intermittency in controlling downstream water quality in the Mountain West, Great Plains, and Southeastern Forest ecosystems. The technician position will support laboratory analyses and field sampling in the Southeastern Forest region. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* The Research Technician should show evidence of competence in environmental chemistry, freshwater science, ecology, or related field and demonstrated promise of moving towards excellence in professional practice, and/or research and scholarly activities as appropriate for the position.

* Specific job responsibilities will include the operation and oversight of analytical instruments operated in collaboration with faculty and students at Alabama A&M University and the University of Alabama Center for Freshwater Science (CFS).

* Instruments include a discrete nutrient autoanalyzer (SEAL), total organic carbon/total nitrogen analyzer (TOC/TN), an ion chromatography (IC) instrument, and an elemental analyzer (EA).

* Oversight duties will include training and coordination of graduate student use of the instruments and routine maintenance; data management, quality control, and archiving; and assuring proper laboratory and field practices and safety.

* We also anticipate that this position will occasionally participate in regular field work, which includes seasonal sampling efforts, sensor maintenance, and student-led sampling campaigns.

Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):

* This position requires a bachelor's degree and 3 years or higher of related professional experience, or an MS degree or higher.

* A valid driver's license is required to apply.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Demonstrated experience in environmental chemistry, water quality analysis, or similar analytical experience.

* Basic computer skills are required and experience in data management is preferred.

* The successful candidate should also have good communication skills, experience working in teams, and be willing to work with diverse colleagues in an equitable and inclusive manner.
