IMMEDIATE OPENINGS AVAILABLE!!!Public Service Maintenance Workers (Roads) in the Department of Public Services perform a variety of tasks related to themaintenance and repair of roads, grounds, and structures. Duties may include working with asphalt, hot and cold patchingroads, clearing animal carcasses, flagging for construction projects, setting up road and freeway closures, clearing snow andice from roadways, repairing guardrails, cutting grass, limbs and trees and removing log jams. Employees maintain field timerecords, prepare reports of work in progress and materials utilized; finish concrete curbings, sidewalks and road pavement;repair manholes, catch basins and other types of rough masonry construction; maintain signs, assist in loading and unloadingtransported materials; perform minor repairs and adjustments; and service and clean equipment. Public Service MaintenanceWorkers will be required on a seasonal or intermittent basis to operate various types of highway maintenance and constructionequipment along with the ability to use a variety of hand power tools.ELIGIBLE PERSONSAt the time of application and appointment, applicant must have: A High School Diploma or GED AND: A valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver's License with Type "A" endorsement and a safe and acceptable drivingrecord. (INDICATE MICHIGAN DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER ON FRONT OF APPLICATION.)SPECIAL CONDITIONSProof of education must be submitted with application.Appointees must obtain a CDL "N" endorsement within the first three (3) months of their probationary period. Appointeeswho do not obtain the "N" endorsement will be removed from the Public Service Maintenance Worker position pursuant tothe Department of Personnel/Human Resources and Department of Public Services procedures.As a condition of employment, appointees must:1. Have a drug screen when hired and submit to random drug screen thereafter;2. Agree to a criminal history check.Names on the resulting eligibility list will be certified only to positions in the Road Maintenance Division of the Department ofPublic Services.TYPES OF TESTSExperience and training will be worth (100%).PURPOSETo establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies. The eligible list will remain in effect for six (6)months but may be extended.The eligible list resulting from this examination will be used only when there are no persons available on the currentestablished Public Service Maintenance Worker (Roads) list, 2927 OC. This will remain in existence until exhausted orterminated by the Department of Personnel/Human Resources.This is a continuous examination and ranking on the eligible list will be subject to change as names are added to and removedfrom the list.GENERAL INFORMATIONPay Rate and Fringe Benefits: Appointments will usually be made at the minimum rate with annual increases whereapplicable. Payment is on a bi-weekly basis. Appointeesmust satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent, in accordance withthe provisions of the collective bargaining agreements.Veteran's Preference: Honorably discharged war veterans who receive passing grades on examinations will have ten (10)points added to their final earned examination scores and those who have a service connected disability will have five (5)points added to their score, for a possible total of fifteen (15) additional points.
