Job Details

  • Applies technical expertise and job experience in the development of business processes to establish supplier quality, delivery, material availability, and cost performance expectations for strategic commodities.
  • Oversee purchase orders and amendments for parts, services and/or special tools.
  • Maintains close coordination with Production to ensure timely execution of product and services sourcing activities.
  • Foster close working relationships with Sales, Engineering, Quality, and Production.
  • Analyze supplier capabilities, part characteristics, cost targets, and floor needs to determine best method for planning; Min/Max, Discrete, Blanket, Expense, Consignment, or Vendor Managed.
  • Conduct supplier visits to strengthen Supplier relationships and facilitate resolution of production, design, quality and/or delivery problems. Ensure strategic relationships with key suppliers are aligned to the Company's needs.
  • Identify new suppliers, agree terms, and negotiate supply agreements where appropriate, including discount structures and volume rebates.
  • Assist in the resolution of supply problems and supervise the follow-up and expediting of critical deliveries.
  • Obtain information necessary to assess short term and long term pricing trends, raw material availability, and industry capacities.
  • Review cost-benefit analysis of purchased material and services in coordination with cost savings and supplier consolidation strategies. Recommend the addition/removal of suppliers from supplier base and oversee supplier moves.
  • Assesses, identifies, and develops plans to address supplier risk.
  • Represents the company to suppliers at all levels of management; Manage complex internal and external relationships requiring diplomacy, negotiation and strong technical skills.
  • Conduct comprehensive review of purchasing function and identify methods of improvement; recommend/change policies and procedures for purchasing functions.
  • Implements appropriate purchasing planning parameters to maintain inventory levels, ensuring deliveries occur within customer timelines while staying within budgeted inventory levels.
  • May supervise exempt and/or non-exempt personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in the department and conducts supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of related experience in the procurement of castings finish machined parts, and other industrial commodities.Three (3) years of international experience setting up supplier partnerships in a global market.Requirements include APP or CPM, blueprint skills, and various purchasing related duties including negotiating, cost containment, supply chain, and advanced computer skills.Two (2) years of supervisory experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.Proficiency in English is required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

JOB SKILLS

Strong knowledge of purchasing fundamentals.Able to work independently and solve complex issues.Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Proven experience with MRP and ERP systems.Strong leadership skills and proven experience in staff development.Is responsible to comply with ISO 9001:2000.
