The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is America s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. CAIR s mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

Job Title: Community Advocacy Director

Position: Full-Time

FLSA: Exempt

Department: Community Advocacy Center

Reports to: Deputy Executive Director

Salary: Candidates can expect to be offered $95,000 as a new hire in the role.

The Community Advocacy Director ensures fair and equal treatment for all American Muslims, using advocacy techniques to provide direct services to those impacted by bias. The Community Advocacy Director also partners with similar community advocates within CAIR to enhance the organization s advocacy services. The Community Advocacy Director interacts with our legal staff, maintains educational materials for advocacy workshops, and facilitates training sessions within the American Muslim community.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

o Create and manage an adoptable advocacy agenda for each quarter and/or fiscal year, outlining key CAIR advocacy objectives.

o Develop and implement a series of non-legal advocacy trainings for the American Muslim community.

o Develop and implement an intake system to manage and track complaints from the community received from the Legal Department.

o Work with complainants on issues they are experiencing around discrimination, hate bias, and other examples of Islamophobia.

o Produce an annual work plan with metrics tied to CAIR s overall organizational goals.

o Develop and implement strategies for advancing CAIR s advocacy goals.

o Develop and organize advocacy complaint strategies.

o Research, manage, and track community advocacy strategy to achieve priority advocacy initiatives within CAIR.

o Plan and facilitate advocacy complaint meetings and advocacy complaint development processes.

o Identify key stakeholders , individuals, organizations, and communities to determine potential partners for CAIR s advocacy work.

o Participate in weekly staff meetings, team check-ins, and planning and support for other meetings as required.

o Participate in staff development and training.

o Manage staff, interns, and other contract staff as needed.

o In coordination with Communications create talking points, action alerts, social media posts, etc. around key advocacy complaints.

o Provide support for CAIR Advocacy issues, programs, and events.

o Any other duties as required.

Qualifications

o J.D. degree or similar preferred.

o At least five years experience in a non-profit organization working on advocacy related issues.

o Familiarity with advocacy strategies and content development

o Experience managing advocacy related projects with a focus on school bullying, hate bias incidents, and other examples of Islamophobia commonly directed at the American-Muslim community.

o Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.

o Strong research, writing, and editing skills.
