Job Duties

Virginia Military Institute is accepting applications for a full-time Mason Plaster (Water Proofer).

Job Duties:
Repair plaster; lay brick and block; power wash/clean stonework and capstones.
Replace broken windows, glaze and caulk as needed.
Caulk expansion joints and capstones.
Perform exterior and interior painting.
Form and finish concrete steps and sidewalks.
Being on call, every third week as part of a team, with the ability to respond in a reasonable time and identified as essential personnel for responding to emergencies and/or natural disasters.
Working well independently and with others in a team environment and the general public.
Working weekends and evenings to support VMI functions and emergencies.
Upholding the established appearance and conduct standards to ensure the VMI Physical Plant organization is represented to the highest level and respected in the VMI community.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Good communication skills (oral, written, and listening).
Problem solving skills.
Valid Virginia driver's license with a clean driving record required.
Successful candidate must have experience and general knowledge in masonry work, plastering, caulking, and painting.
Ability to operate a power lift.
Must be able to work from heights up to but not limited to 100 feet from swinging scaffold and lifts.
Must be able to tolerate extreme temperatures (heat), constant swaying motion, and the restricted mobility from wearing the fall protective gear.

Additional Considerations
Extensive experience masonry, concrete, and stonework.
Trades License and/or certifications.
Computer skills.
High School Graduate or GED.
