Description

Applications are now being accepted for Dispatcher III in the City of Fairfax Police Department from applicants who are currently Virginia Certified Dispatchers with eight (8) or more years of police dispatching experience. Highly Qualified candidate(s) are subject to an oral interview, conditional job offer, background investigation, physical and psychological examinations. The police department reserves the right to request a polygraph. A final interview with the Chief of Police may be scheduled.

Examples Of Duties

Assigned to the Administrative Services Division working in the Emergency Communications Center. Dispatches calls for service to officers working in the field, receives and transmits radio messages, and entertains service requests from the public. Operates Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer terminals. Assists with warrant control procedures, tow operations and entering data into the department's Records Management System (RMS). Assists with training Dispatcher's I and II and performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Virginia Certified Dispatcher with eight (8) or more years of police dispatching experience. Must hold a High School diploma or possess a G.E.D. issued by a State Department of Education. U.S. Citizenship or in the process of naturalization required at time of application. Must have never committed or been convicted of a felony. Must have the ability to multi-task, be of good character and reputation, have the ability to speak clearly, hear and analyze high stress situations. Successful completion of the applicant screening process.

Desirable Qualifications:

College coursework or a degree; ability to communicate effectively in a second

language.

Supplemental Information

Rotating shift work, including nights, weekends and holidays. Will consider applicants willing to work part-time.
